NC#NCCUCommunity | NCCU senior Devin Freeman made an unforgettable mark at the 56th Annual NAACP Image Awards! Freeman had the distinguished honor of introducing NAACP Chairman Leon Russell for the presentation of the Chairman's Award to Vice President Kamala Harris.
When Vice President Harris took the stage, she warmly addressed Freeman, saying, "I'm so proud of you, and it is so good to see you. I know the future of our country is bright when I look at you."
Freeman’s leadership and impact extend far beyond this moment. At NCCU, he has served as president and political action chair of the student NAACP chapter, Mr. UHP in the University Honors Program, and a two-time class president—all while holding countless other roles that showcase his dedication to leadership, service, and student advocacy.
Beyond campus, he has remained deeply involved in civic engagement and public service. He served as Durham vice president of the Young Democrats of North Carolina, a Democratic precinct chair for Durham County Democrats, a public policy intern for the NC Chamber, and a congressional intern for Rep. Alma Adams.
His dedication to leadership and advocacy was further recognized when he was selected as a delegate at the 2024 Democratic National Convention and a youth surrogate for Vice President Harris's campaign.
In addition to his leadership in politics and public service, Freeman is also an author. His self-published children's book, Building a Better Block with Brandon, promotes civic awareness and engagement, inspiring young readers to take action in their communities.
Freeman's presence on this national stage is a testament to North Carolina Central University students' excellence, leadership, and promise.
