❌Don’t always use DIFFICULT ❌ Try these instead: 1. Troublesome causing a lot of problems for someone. Example “Our kids can be incredibly troublesome at times There’s just no easy way to deal with them.” 2. Demanding needing a lot of attention, effort, or time. Example “I’ve been trying to learn English for 7 months now, but I find it overly demanding. I may give it up.” 3. Tricky If a piece of work or problem is tricky, it is difficult to deal with and needs careful attention or skill Example “She’s gets offended very easily, so working with her can be a bit tricky.” 4. Challenging difficult, in a way that tests your ability or determination. Example “Sorry I haven’t been able to reach out to you earlier, but I’ve been going through a challenging time with my family.” 5. Complex difficult to understand or find an answer to because of having many different parts Example “The film’s plot was so complex that I couldn’t follow it. I wouldn’t recommend it.” • • • @ieltswithsherry • • • #ieltspreparation #ieltsvocab #vocabularybuilding #learnenglishonline #englishwords #synonym #synonymoftheday #ieltswords #ieltswithsherry #english_learning #ieltspractice #ieltstips #reelsinstagram #ieltsindia #ieltsexam #ielts_exam

Don’t always call something an obstacle if it’s making something difficult for you in English! Of course we can use this word to describe things that delay or hinder our progress, but there are plenty of other words that native English speakers use to say this, and in this video, I share some of them with you. Let me know which ones are new for you and practice using them in the comments! Here are the alternatives to “obstacle”that I share in today’s video: 🔹a bump in the road = a small, temporary problem that prevents you from making progress; we typically use the verb “hit” with this phrase: It’s impossible to learn a language or achieve a big goal without hitting a few bumps in the road along the way. 🔹a roadblock = something that stops progress; a roadblock is typically a bigger problem than a bump in the road, and we can put adjectives before this word and talk about mental roadblocks, emotional roadblocks, logistical roadblocks, etc. One of the most common roadblocks to self-confidence is the habit of comparing yourself to others. 🔹a setback = something that delays or stops progress or makes a situation worse: While preparing for the race, she sprained her ankle, but this was just a small setback in the grand scheme of things because it healed quickly. 🔹set back = to delay a process or a person, or to cost someone a certain amount of money (this second meaning is informal): The Writers Guild strike set back the production of many TV shows and movies significantly. Replacing the microwave set me back over $200. 🔹a hiccup = a minor difficulty, or a small error: There were some technical hiccups, but other than that, the presentation went without a hitch. 🔹a hurdle = a problem that you need to solve before you can make progress: A big hurdle for me when I moved to Spain was not knowing the language, but luckily I was in the best place to learn it. 🔹a snag (informal) = a problem or disadvantage of some sort: We were so excited to go shopping, but our plans hit a snag when it started raining torrentially. . . . . . #esl #learnenglish #speakenglish #advancedenglish

SYNONYM: A difficult task to complete. OPPOSITE: PIECE OF CAKE /A WALK IN THE PARK 1. Getting an A in this class will be a tough nut to crack. 2.You want me to find more money in the budget? Ha, there's a tough nut to crack! 3.Figuring out the best way to modernize our product without alienating existing customers is definitely a tough nut to crack. Synonym 2 :A challenging or unreasonable person to understand or deal with. Opposite; agreeable, easy to get along 1. Our super-strict principal is a tough nut to crack, so I hope Kate can convince her to let us host this event. Because our boss usually keeps to himself, I have no idea what his interests are—he's a tough nut to crack. The spy we captured is a tough nut to crack; he hasn't said a thing since we began the interrogation.
