ARFirst: Criticism.
Not “You didn’t do what you promised.”
That’s a complaint about behavior.
Criticism is personal: “You’re so irresponsible.
You’re lazy. No one can rely on you.”
When you attack who they are, not what they did - the relationship starts to crack.
Second: Contempt.
This one’s deadly.
It’s when you roll your eyes, mock, or belittle.
You see it clearest around friends:
one partner subtly stabs the other,
pointing out flaws, making “jokes” at their expense.
Contempt says, “I’m better than you.”
That’s relationship poison.
Third: Stonewalling.
The wall.
One partner shuts down completely -
goes silent, scrolls the phone, leaves the room.
Emotionally gone, even if physically there.
Usually one builds the wall first.
Then the other builds one right next to it.
No more connection. Just two people alone together.
