The concept traces back to a well-known moment in Werner Herzog’s 2007 documentary Encounters at the End of the World. In the film, Herzog captures footage of a penguin that breaks away from its group. Rather than heading toward the ocean to find food, the penguin walks in the opposite direction, deeper into the Antarctic interior.
