Trimming the brow in that half moon shape is soooooooo satisfying!!! The dog is like “I can see!!!” I then blend that curved line with my blenders. I sometimes use small thinners to trim the inner corner of each eye, and the bridge of the nose but Winnie Woo is such a super star that she was fine with the clippers!!! I always get asked “how do you get them to stay so still”, I even get asked “do you drug them???” I work as “force free” as possible, and I train the dogs I care for to be as still as possible for face trimming. As you can imagine, that can cause all sorts of issues including ear infections and loss of hearing! (Is that why cockapoo’s don’t listen!???) I’m completely ashamed to say this is my own dog Lenny. I was trimming outside the ear canal, and plucking a tiny bit here and there, but I couldn’t believe finding this!!! There is a big debate as to whether groomers or vets should do the plucking… what are your thoughts??? I’m so sorry Lord Lenny. I’m expecting a backlash/criticism for this, and I deserve it. But like any owner… I’m only human… these things can be missed! This is why I wanted a cockapoo - to better understand the breed maintenance for owners at home. Be kind. IF YOU DONT WANT TO BRUSH EVERY DAY!?? THERE IS A SOLUTION!!! If you don’t want to spend loads of time brushing your dog every day or every other day, you can always keep them short. 10mm comb attachment, or even as short as a #7 blade… shorter length = less coat = less coat maintenance 🤷‍♀️ Otherwise a longer unbrushed coat will get knotty, uncomfortable and cost more ££ at the groomers!!! Sometimes owners don’t realise the amount of brushing & coat maintenance needed for their breed of choice… This doesn’t make them terrible owners!!! It just means more education is needed :) Be kind always - to both dogs and hoomans!!! They weren’t round enough and looked “pointy”… Under the eye, and the muzzle, are different areas and have to be trimmed accordingly. I was taking a chunk of that muzzle when trimming under the eyes! Does this video make sense?… As always… I know what I mean lol! How do you get rid of mouth staining on the white dogs? Unfortunately you can’t solve them but you can take steps to make them less visible… DID YOU KNOW!??? All dogs have some level of tear or mouth staining, but it’s annoyingly much more visible on the white coats! WAHT CAUSES IT?: “Porphyrin is a naturally occurring substance in the tears and saliva and tends to show up as a pink/brown colour where your pet has licked, dribbled or produced lots of tears. The staining of the fur itself is of no actual harm to your pet; however, it is important to get to the bottom of why it is happening if it new or changing, and I would definitely advise that you discuss this further with your vet.” (Vet Help Direct) Groomers can remove this mouth staining either with trimmers, or carefully with small scissors - depending on what the dog is used to and what technique they’re most happy with. ⚠️ DONT TRY THIS AT HOME!!! ⚠️ As with all my tips, do not try this on any dog (including your own!) without training. Many salons and colleges now offer “how to groom your own dog” courses, which are essential for anyone grooming at home. There is so much more to dog grooming than cuddling & haircuts!… The main thing being handling for safety of the dog and for you! I also suggest training in canine behaviour so that you understand how dogs learn & their communication signals, and also canine first aid course is essential as accidents do happen - even with us professionals! Anyway… I used to get stuck with these wet nose hairs… Lelo suffers from wet face syndrome… ok so it’s not an actual thing (I dont think!?) but her mouth/nose area are always v moist! I find the hairs that stick to the nose look better when trimmed a little - in keeping with that cute round muzzle! Lelo is a pro at the chin rest, but please the handling you/the dog are most used to. I hope this helps! Who wants to see Lelo’s groom as a full detailed seminar??? I still get out my “notes from the grooming table” when I get a Westie in! Any other groomers have that as their bible? But you’re striving for a round head from both front and sides. Westie coats vary massively in thickness & texture. That along with nose length (and cooperation levels!) can all impact the style you can achieve! But follow this round jaw line method - from nose down, and round up to the back of the ear - and it will give you a strong start!!! Who loves a Westie!? 🧸🧸SAVE THIS TEDDY ONE NOW! 🧸🧸 ⭐️FOLLOW NOW FOR MORE PRO GROOMING TIPS⭐️ So how do I create a cute round teddy bear muzzle? ⚠️DO NOT TRIM ANY DOG WITHOUT ADEQUATE TRAINING! ⚠️ Here are my steps… 🧸Comb forward and trim off anything in front of the nose/mouth 🧸Lift the muzzle right up and out with a comb 🧸Use curves to set the round muzzle shape 🧸Blend and soften the shape with thinners You’re aiming for a perfect circular shape - from the top of the nose/muzzle to the middle point of the chin. Width wise you should aim to have the muzzle as wide as the dogs eyes. Anyone else love creating teddy faces!!???? Sometimes dogs don’t like their heads tilted back for scissoring of their neck… it’s quite vulnerable I guess and just not a natural position.
