That’s no Doric… that’s Scots. I had more comments about this than anything else I’ve ever posted, so here’s the truth in the simplest way possible. Doric is a dialect of Scots, which means loads of the words we use in Aberdeen exist across Scotland too. But the sound, the rhythm, the wee twists we add in the north-east that’s what makes it Doric. Some words are shared Scots… some are pure Doric… and most of us grew up mixing the two without even realising it. That’s the magic of speaking fae here. What word did you always think was Doric… until someone told you it was Scots?
