We had our first experience with a low that went too low. On Wednesday around 3:00pm, my littlest wanted some gummies. I dosed him as I normally do and waiting the time prescribed for his insulin to kick in. As he was finishing his last gummy, he went from 130 BS to 69 double arrows down — NO WARNING. He just dropped from one dot on his chart to the next. The next alert was the alert of LOW with double arrows down. He had just smashed 50g of fast digestive carbs and I thought all would be okay until it wasn’t.
He fell off our couch (as a normal 5 year old does any way) and so I went over to him thinking he was being silly and playing but as he tried to stand up he keep collapsing and stumbling. I grabbed him, looked at his eyes and I knew something was wrong.
He was going unconscious.
His blood sugar was so low he was about to be unresponsive. I screamed for my husband Jake. He came in grabbed him and told me to grab the baqsimi (emergency glucose that gets shot up the nose). As he’s passing out, Jake shoots it up his nose and he slowly starts to come back. I pricked his finger to see where he was now that he was slightly responsive and his BS read 27 ….
This was my biggest fear with our kids being type 1. A low that goes too low. It’s dangerous and it’s scary.
Thank God he’s okay.

ROWith the news Tassal has already started dumping a new, untested antibiotic at their Dover leases the shocking reality of what that means for recreational fishers is hitting home.
The Director of Public Health has advised that wild fish caught three kilometres from a dosed salmon pen should not be eaten for three weeks to prevent antibiotic residues being absorbed.
But just last year antibiotics were found above the acceptable level for human consumption SEVEN kilometres from the treated site, so we’ve made some maps to show how that affects rec fishers in Dover and beyond.
Even more scarily, Salomon Tasmania CEO John Whittington has foreshadowed that any and every lease in southern Tasmania could be treated for diseased fish from this moment on.
Our clean, green image is being trashed to the point where soon we won’t be able to take the tinny out and catch a feed for the family — today, this is the reality in Dover.
