Yesterday, I promised to show y’all what to do in lieu of dry cleaning after explaining that sometimes a dry clean only tag is just a buncha bologna. Sometimes it isn’t and that’s usually when we learn the hard way, so hopefully this will be helpful lol. Dry cleaners use a variety of non-water chemicals, solvents, and machinery but we can totally do this at home in a less toxic way. My special sauce is straight vodka, tea tree oil, and sol u mel in a spray bottle. Message me for info on where to get these products! Mix it up and spray in a wave like motion to cover the most ground and avoid oversaturating. Spray until the garment is partly damp but not soaking wet. Spray both sides then turn inside out and repeat. Turning inside out is important because the inside is where most of the dirt and grime live from the previous owner’s skin and sweat. Be sure to saturated the pit areas especially. Hang the garments up with space in between any other garments in front of a fan. This speeds up the drying process, not for any reason really, I’m just impatient. Vodka is only 60% water so it doesn’t harm fabrics like submerging them in pure water and also offers disinfecting properties from the alcohol content. Paired with the tea tree and Sol-U-Mel, these chicks are CLEAN. After the babies are dry, it’s time to steam. My trick is to always steam from the inside of the garment to avoid water spitting, which can cause stains. If steaming from the outside, maintain a safe distance. I like to include a little tea tree in my steamer water too for a nice finish. Now our children are clean and the texture of the fabrics has been spared!! There’s no color run and the trims are safe. Time for a free facial. Message me for links for products. If you understand your fabrics, caring for them becomes so much easier. Linen, cotton, and even silk can often be washed at home — just use a mesh bag or hand-wash for delicates.

The Dry Clean Only Myth 🤫 🫧 Type DRY CLEAN below to get a 🔗 to: •part 1 & 2 of this topic with more fabrics •my outfit •nontoxic fabric freshener Things they don’t want you to know… you can machine wash your clothing that says “DRY CLEAN ONLY” but you just need to know which ones! I personally only go to the dry cleaner for complex things, stains I really can’t get out (I don’t keep chemicals in my home, but 99% of the time I can get them out — even when my dry cleaner couldn’t!) and blazers/jackets maybe once a season. It’s better for you, your clothes, your wallet and the environment to keep these trips to a minimum. 🌎 When I worked for a designer, one of my jobs was making the dry clean only labels and I asked if everything really needed to be dry cleaned… the designer admitted they did this because 1) it’s just easier and 2) to protect the brand in case the consumer messed up the clothes while washing.
