RWThe DTM E92 era (2012-2013) marked BMW’s return with the M3 DTM, competing against Audi A5 DTM and Mercedes C-Coupé DTM in silhouette racers sharing standardized specs.
Common Technical Standards
All cars used carbon monocoques (~1,050 kg dry weight), 4.0L naturally aspirated V8 engines air-restricted to ~480 hp (358 kW) at 7,500 rpm and ~370 lb-ft (500 Nm), Hewland 6-speed sequential gearboxes, and Pirelli slicks on 18-inch wheels.
BMW M3 DTM (E92)
P66/1 V8 with pushrod suspension, aggressive aero for 300 km/h top speeds, debuted 2012 winning Bruno Spengler’s title.
Audi A5 DTM

KIIn June 1998, retired F1 driver Nigel Mansell lined up on the BTCC grid at Donington. With little experience in front-wheel-drive cars or BTCC, as well as fierce competition for the title, it would have been easy for Mansell to phone it in and take the money. But Il Leone, as he was called by Italian Tifosi, was not the kind of driver to do that. Starting at 19th on the grid, the last place, Mansell battled his way through a field of hardened BTCC drivers to create the best day of racing in the beloved series. The rest, as they say, is history.
