This past week a patient came in after he slipped and fell on the ice from a couple weeks back. He fell on his left buttock but it was the hip flexors on the front of his left hip that were stiff and sore. He had tried stretching his hip flexor without improvement. Physical exam showed an ileum that was jammed up on the left side (often called an “upslip”). The tension in the SIJ joint was making it hard for him to engage his glute max and core muscles...so the hip flexors ended up over working. Instead of working on his hip flexor (the symptom) we released tension from the SIJ ligaments followed by strengthening his glutes and core strengthening. Understanding how the body compensates after falls is important to avoid more problems in the future. #nkt #neurokinetictherapy #vancouverphysio #calgaryphysio

The correlation between kidney and hip extension 🏃🏻‍♂️ Reduced kidney mobility may influence hip extension ✅ Due to the anatomical and fascial connections between the kidneys and the psoas - visceral restrictions can increase anterior hip tension and limit proper hip extension. When the kidney loses its physiological glide, it may alter lumbopelvic mechanics and create compensatory patterns during gait and extension-based movements. ❗️Limited hip extension ❗️Anterior hip tightness ❗️Lower back discomfort ❗️Groin tension ❗️Altered gait mechanics ❗️Lumbopelvic stiffness 📌 Save this post and follow @physiowild for more functional and visceral-based physical therapy techniques. #hipmobility #hipextension #visceralmobility #manualtherapy #osteopathy physiotherapy functionaltraining movementscience fascia psoas lumbopelvic gaitanalysis rehab physicaltherapy sportsrehab mobilitytraining clinicalreasoning holistichealth bodymechanics movementexpert

The knee-jerk reflex (patellar reflex) is an involuntary, monosynaptic, spinal reflex where tapping the patellar tendon stretches the quadriceps muscle, causing it to rapidly contract and extend the leg. This deep tendon reflex helps maintain posture and balance, with neural pathways involving the 𝐿2-𝐿4spinal segments. ➡️Key Details About the Knee-Jerk Reflex: •Mechanism: A tap on the tendon causes the quadriceps muscle to stretch, stimulating sensory receptors. These send a signal to the spinal cord, which sends an immediate motor response back to the muscle to contract, kicking the leg out. •Monosynaptic: It is a monosynaptic reflex because it involves only one synapse between the sensory neuron and the motor neuron, making it very fast. •Clinical Importance: It is used by clinicians to assess the health of the nervous system, including the spinal cord. •Abnormalities: =Reduced/Absent (Hyporeflexia): Known as Westphal’s sign, this can indicate peripheral nerve damage or other neurological conditions. =Exaggerated: Can indicate upper motor neuron damage. #Neuro #physio #reflex #tone #positive

How neuromuscular work helps hyperkyphosis Hyperkyphosis isn’t just a spine problem — it’s a muscle pattern problem. When the body lives in a slouched position, certain muscles become: • chronically shortened (chest, anterior neck, upper abs) • overactive and guarding (upper traps, levator scapulae) • inhibited or weak (mid-back stabilizers, deep neck flexors) Over time, the nervous system accepts this as the “new normal.” Neuromuscular therapy works by: ✅ releasing chronic protective tension ✅ restoring communication between muscles and brain ✅ reducing guarding patterns ✅ allowing the spine to reorganize into a more neutral alignment ✅ improving proprioception (your sense of posture in space) It’s not forcing the spine straight — it’s teaching the body a safer, more efficient pattern. When the muscles stop fighting each other, posture improves naturally. That’s why lasting change comes from neuromuscular re-education, not just stretching or bracing. #neuromusculartherapy #posturecorrection #hyperkyphosis #forwardheadposture #bodyalignment

🦴 Herniated Disc ≠ Just Back Pain A herniated disc happens when the soft center of a spinal disc presses on nearby nerves — and symptoms can look very different depending on where and how the disc herniates. ⚡ You might notice: • Pain that travels into the arm or leg • Numbness or tingling • Muscle weakness or tightness • A feeling of stiffness or guarding rather than sharp pain ✨ The good news? Most herniated discs respond well to conservative care, especially when treatment supports the nervous system, soft tissue, and movement patterns — not just the spine itself. 💆 Therapeutic massage can help reduce muscle guarding ⚡ Microcurrent therapy may support pain relief and tissue healing 🚶 Gentle, intentional movement restores confidence in motion Your body isn’t broken — it’s communicating. 👉 Read the full blog to learn how herniation direction, nerve involvement, and holistic care all fit together. #HerniatedDisc #BackPainEducation #SciaticaRelief #SpinalHealth #MicrocurrentTherapy Massage therapy NervousSystemSupport HolisticHealing PainReliefNaturally WellnessEducation

In this video, Dr. Manish Swami (Physiotherapist) demonstrates an effective Kinesio Taping technique for Knee Fat Pad Irritation. This taping method helps reduce pain, decrease inflammation, and provide better support to the knee joint. Fat pad irritation (Hoffa’s syndrome) can cause pain in the front of the knee, especially during walking, climbing stairs, or prolonged standing. Proper kinesio taping can help relieve pressure on the fat pad and improve knee movement. This video will help you learn the correct taping technique used in physiotherapy clinics. Benefits of this taping: • Reduces knee pain • Supports the patella • Decreases pressure on fat pad • Improves knee stability For proper assessment and treatment, consult a qualified physiotherapist. Same knee bending… but different goals 👀 Rehab isn’t random exercise. Position changes the purpose. Supine → mobility. Prone → activation. Progression is planned, not guessed 🔹 Supine Knee Flexion (Lying on back) • Focus: Restore range of motion • Goal: Reduce stiffness & prevent adhesions • Better pain control and patient comfort • Suitable for early rehab phase • Controlled, graded movement progression 🔹 Prone Knee Flexion (Lying on stomach) • Focus: Hamstring activation • Goal: Improve active flexion strength • Gravity adds resistance • Enhances neuromuscular control • Useful in mid to later rehab progression ✔ Same movement pattern ✔ Different muscular demand ✔ Different clinical objective Rehab is not random exercise repetition. It is position-specific and goal-oriented. #physiotherapy #kneerehab #movementscience #orthorehab #clinicalpractice physiolife rehabilitation
