Normal Vs Abnormal Heartbeats - The animation of normal and abnormal ECG patterns visually demonstrates how the heart’s electrical activity changes under different conditions. In the normal ECG animation, the waveform appears regular and rhythmic, showing a consistent P wave, QRS complex, and T wave—indicating a healthy heartbeat with proper electrical conduction. As the animation transitions to abnormal patterns, noticeable changes emerge. A slow heartbeat (bradycardia) is shown with widely spaced waves, while a fast heartbeat (tachycardia) displays closely packed, rapid cycles. Irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias) appear uneven, with inconsistent spacing and wave shapes. More severe abnormalities are also illustrated. Heart blocks (Mobitz type I and II) show interruptions in electrical conduction, where some beats are delayed or dropped. In cases of heart attacks, such as STEMI and NSTEMI, the animation highlights significant distortions in the waveform—especially in the ST segment—indicating damage to the heart muscle.

@profa.marinetediniz

✅What the Numbers Mean: ✅1) Heart Rate (HR): Typically, the heart rate is presented at the top of the monitor in green. The number will be identified by a “HR” or “PR” (pulse rate) beside or just above it and is presented in beats per minute (bpm). A normal adult has a resting heart rate between 60-100 bpm ✅2) Blood Pressure (BP): The patient’s blood pressure is typically presented on the screen under “SYST” or “SYS” for systolic and “DIAS” or “DIA” for diastolic. An average BP is around 120/80. ✅3) Oxygen Saturation (SpO2): The patient’s oxygen saturation will be located on the monitor under “SpO2” and is a measure of the amount of oxygen in the patient’s blood. A normal O2 saturation is 95% or greater; however, it is important to remember that some populations such as those with COPD have a lower normal cutoff. ✅4) Respiratory Rate (RR): Look for the patient’s respiratory rate under “RR” on the patient monitor. It is reported in breaths per minute, with normal values between 12 and 20. However, this number isn’t very accurate, especially as the patient’s breathing goes faster or slower. ✅ What the Lines Mean: ✅1) ECG Readout:The ECG readout on the patient monitor is not intended for detailed ECG analysis as it typically only represents one lead (most commonly lead II). Instead, it is most useful for guiding acute resuscitations or managing arrhythmias, If you have any concerns regarding a patient’s cardiac function, get a 12-lead ECG ✅2) SpO2 Waveform: The SpO2 waveform allows clinicians to determine whether there are any issues with circulation or peripheral perfusion. Each peak of the SpO2 waveform should correlate with a heartbeat on the ECG waveform at the same intervals, since oxygenated blood is being pumped out of the heart with each heartbeat. ✅3) Respiratory Waveform: The “RESP” waveform on the monitor is useful for clinicians to monitor for any respiratory issues such as apnea or dyspnea. ✅What the Alarm Means: If any of the vital signs fall outside of the range of normal, the patient monitor will alert clinicians by sounding an alarm and flashing an alert on the screen #physiotherapy #physio #medicine #medical #medstudent #medschool #icu #ecg

EKGs Made Ridiculously Simple 🫀 👉Truth: Let’s be honest when we all first saw different EKGs, they just looked like squiggly lines. It used to feel impossible for me to interpret an EKG. Let me show you an easier way. A Normal Sinus Rhythm EKG has: ✅ Spike that looks like a SAILBOAT ⛵ = QRS complex ✅ 2 waves between each ⛵ = P wave + T wave ✅ 60-100 BPM SINUS TACHYCARDIA = Spike ⛵ + 2 waves that come fast together. >100 BPM SINUS BRADYCARDIA = Spike ⛵ + 2 waves that are slowed apart. <60 BPM AFIB = Spike ⛵ + choppy or chaotic waves pattern on repeat AFLUTTER = Spike ⛵ + waves cut w/ a sawtooth VTACH = Mountains of HUGE waves.🌊🌊🌊 VTACH w/ pulse = cardiovert, VTACH w/o pulse = defibrillate VFIB = Pure chaos of waves w/ no spike ⛵. Have the V (VFIB) give the D (defibrillate) ASYSTOLE = no sail, no waves, no nothing. ☠ #flatline ❤️ Please like and share because you never know who else might be struggling with this!
