Being a dean’s list biomedical engineering student getting both my bachelors and my masters at the same time has certainly taught me some things and you know I got you! 👇🏼 Second brain: 🧠 - Second brain relies on an external system for capturing, organizing, retrieving, and archiving ideas rather than solely your memory. When you document these ideas and package them in an accessible way, you are able to utilize them more efficiently. Moreover, you don’t have to worry about losing valuable information over time! Blurting method: ✍🏼 - First open up your textbook or lecture and get familiar with a specific section of the material. Then close the source and write everything you can remember on a blank sheet of paper. Then open the source again and compare it, while also filling in any knowledge gaps and making necessary corrections. Each iteration you do will allow you to retain more information! Gap learning: ⏲️ Taking short randomized breaks can improve the speed and depth of learning by allowing the brain to consolidate and repeat the material, similar to the process that occurs during sleep. Use a random timer generator and take breaks of about 10 seconds. Feynman technique: 📣 - The Feynman Technique is a study strategy that involves explaining a topic in your own words as if you were teaching it to someone else who has no background knowledge. It helps simplify complex ideas, identify gaps in understanding, and build a stronger foundation of knowledge.

A movement screen isn’t just about flexibility/range of motion. Yes, it tells us about that, but it gives us far more information if we know what to look for and ask. Excellent flexibility doesn’t equal excellent function. And exceptional range of motion doesn’t equal pain free. This is where the pros separate themselves from the hobbyists. Pros dig deeper and understand the implications of the undercurrents for their clients. A movement screen is a tool, but that tool isn’t of equal value in all hands. In the hands of an Active Life Professional, it’s a tool that can be used to transform lives AND provide an exceptional living.
