Global warming isn’t a future threat—it’s a present reality. Melting glaciers, vanishing species, and shifting ecosystems are warning signs. If nature’s balance breaks, we won’t be the exception. Act now. 🇮🇳❤️

How to Find Water Bears 101… Water bears, also known as Tardigrades, are among the cutest microscopic animals! They are famous for being amazingly resistant to all sorts of extreme conditions. People often refer to them as “immortal,” but they are mortal like any other animal. However, when the environmental conditions are adverse, they enter into a state of “suspended animation” called cryptobiosis. It is when they enter into cryptobiosis that they can withstand the incredibly harsh conditions that give them the reputation of being “immortal.” _____ 📝 & 🎥 courtesy of @dr.bio4ever #science #microscopy #microscope #microscopic #microscopio #microorganisms #microorganismos #waterbear #tardigrade #tardigrada #moss #mosspiglet #biology #nature

Meet nature's early warning system... 🚨BIOINDICATORS🚨 These species are so sensitive to changes in their environment that their presence or absence tells us whether an ecosystem is healthy or in trouble. 🐸 Take red-eyed tree frogs for example: Like many amphibians, they absorb water and oxygen directly through their skin, making them hypersensitive to pollution, temperature shifts, and habitat loss. When their population declines, it's often one of the first signs that the ecosystem is under stress. By paying close attention to bioindicators, we can act before it's too late! #RainforestAlliance #Bioindicator #Biodiversity #IndicatorSpecies #Wildlife

How satisfying is it to watch this forest grow back? This ecosystem in Uganda is home to chimpanzees, but it was being cut down for charcoal and firewood. So we teamed up with @janegoodall_austria and local communities to plant forest corridors. 7 years later, 36,690 trees are growing and protected 🌳 and the chimps are starting to roam freely again 🥹 #ecosia #reforestation #janegoodall

What if an animal could live like a plant? 🤯🌿 Meet one of nature’s strangest wonders—an animal that can perform photosynthesis! By absorbing chloroplasts from the algae it eats, it gains the ability to produce its own energy from sunlight, just like plants do. This incredible adaptation blurs the line between plant and animal, showing how mysterious and creative nature can be. It’s a perfect example of how life continues to surprise us in the most unexpected ways! ☀️✨ #SpaceChronicles #AmazingFacts #DidYouKnow #NatureFacts #WeirdNature #ScienceFacts #IncredibleNature #Photosynthesis #Wildlife #Factnomenal #Discovery #MindBlowing #UniqueCreatures #ViralFacts #TrendingNow

Garry oak ecosystems provide critical habitat

These RARE ecosystems are bursting with biodiversity 🤩and they’re found almost nowhere else in Canada. Garry oak ecosystems provide critical habitat for over 100 species at risk and hundreds of other plants, animals, fungi, and insects. They’re shaped by sun, shallow soils, and a long history of Indigenous stewardship, including cultural burning practices that helped maintain their open, meadow-like structure. Named after the iconic Garry Oak tree, these ecosystems survive today in scattered patches, in regions such as the Cowichan Valley. In the spring, they burst with wildflowers like shooting stars, fawn lilies, camas, spring gold, and nodding onions. But they’re in trouble. Less than 5% of Garry oak ecosystems remain in near-natural condition due to urban development, invasive species, and fire suppression. This makes them one of Canada’s most endangered ecosystems. To protect these rare ecosystems, stay on trails, leave no trace, and support/volunteer/donate to organizations who are working hard to protect and restore them 💚 #biodiversity #naturenerd #garryoak #britishcolumbia #vancouverisland #cowichanvalley

Warming temperatures aren’t just melting ice, they’re merging ecosystems. 🪶🐳 As warming temperatures shift species’ habitats, animals that haven’t shared ecosystems in thousands to millions of years are now colliding, creating unexpected new hybrids. These changes are rewriting the boundaries of biodiversity in real time. #ClimateChange #Animals #Biology #Ecosystem #Science

How is the way that we think about ecosystems “delusional”?? One of the things that inspired me to write How to Love a Forest was seeing how delusional our relationship with ecosystems often is. On one hand, we are delusional to think that we can continue to exploit and degrade the ecosystems that make our lives possible and that everything will be OK. On the other hand we are delusional to think that we can just leave ecosystems alone and hope that “nature” magically heals itself. Though often held by very different people, both of these viewpoints are delusional in their own way and both are anti-scientific in their own way. Our ecosystems are struggling under the weight of what we call “global change”: the combined effects of climate change, introduced species, the loss or functional loss of numerous important species, deforestation, habitat fragmentation, deer overpopulation, the loss of fire from the landscape, centuries of degradation and exploitation, pollution and more. To believe that ecosystems are resilient is beautiful — but to believe that they can magically heal from all of these things without any help is delusional. I don’t believe that every aspect of every ecosystem should be managed, or managed in the same way. And I don’t believe that it’s possible to live without extracting resources from ecosystems (btw of all the resources that we have wood, harvested in the right way, is a pretty amazing one), but I do believe that in many cases ecosystems both need to be protected as the vital human, irreplaceable, precious natural resource that they are, and also that we need to give them a hand — doing things like restoring habitats and functions that have been lost, restoring missing species, controlling introduced species, restoring fire to the landscape, controlling deer overpopulations, managing forests to be resilient in a changing climate, and more. What it means to truly love a forest is neither to treat it like a bank account, or to treat it like an untouchable deity — it’s to look at them with our eyes wide open and engage in the ancient and beautiful practice of stewardship. #forest #nature #restoration #science #stem
