Try this instead 👇🏼 Open glottis pushing or utilize the fetal ejection reflex. ✨Open glottis pushing is exhaling during a contraction while contracting your abdominal muscles and relaxing your pelvic floor. You decide how long and how strong you wish to push for. This relaxes the perineum muscles and allows oxygen to continue flowing in both the mothers body and through the placenta to the baby. Your muscles need oxygen to continue working - just like it would in any other form of exercise. It also allows the pelvic floor to be rejuvenated with oxygen rich blood so has the nutrients it needs to slowly stretch and expand with the entrance of the baby thus reducing the chance of tearing. ✨Fetal ejection reflex (FER) is the body’s way of involuntarily pushing out the baby. The uterus is an incredible muscle that will push the baby out without any external effort from the mother. However, FER can only happen under specific circumstances. Nearly every situation must include: 👉🏼The mother having privacy during labor: no cervical checks right before pushing, no bright lights, no loud machines, minimal staff possible, etc. 👉🏼The mother being unmedicated: there is a natural concoction of hormones that get released during labor, the use of artificial hormones (pitocin) and/or labor medication (epidural) disrupts the physiological birthing process and FER will not occur. 👉🏼The baby being in an OA position: when the baby is far enough into the pelvis, head down, and facing the mothers back their head will press against a specific nerve located near the sacrum that triggers the uterus to push them out. *During specific medical scenarios a mother might be encouraged to push her baby out quickly. Sometimes a combination of pushing techniques (including purple pushing) might be used to help facilitate faster birthing and that’s okay too* Follow for more childbirth education from a childbirth educator!

God’s design is so awesome 🙌🏻 A huge misconception about giving birth is that we have to forcefully push our babies out. In almost every single movie, TV, or depiction of a woman giving birth you see them holding their breath and pushing as hard as they can. And don’t get me wrong, sometimes “pushing” is necessary. Every birth is different and we are not robots at the end of the day 😅 BUT God has designed the female body in a way to push our babies out with us having to forcefully do it. This is truly my favorite part of birth because it’s SO cool. What you’re witnessing in this reel is the fetal ejection reflect (God’s design). The Fetal Ejection Reflex (FER) is a natural, involuntary process where the body/uterus instinctively expels the baby without forced pushing. So why doesn’t every woman experience this? The thing is, our bodies are sensitive, and it most commonly happens when the right hormonal and physiological conditions are met, just as God designed it. Here are my top 6 tips to experience this reflex during birth👇🏻 1. Prioritize a calm/safe environment: dim lights, privacy/feeling comfortable with your birth team, quiet space, few disruptions 2. Optimize oxytocin (the love hormone) & endorphins: this is essential for the FER. Stay relaxed and feel loved (gentle touch, worship music, or prayer can help). Low adrenaline is also crucial—fear or tension can prevent FER. 3. Avoid coached pushing: Wait for the undeniable, uncontrollable urge to bear down and you’re likely going to experience this! 4. Upright and open positions: Hands and knees, squatting, or standing positions allow gravity to assist. 5. Stay at home longer if possible: FER is more likely to happen in a familiar, relaxed environment & hospital settings often introduce interventions or restrictions that inhibit it. 6. Work with, not against your body & God’s design: Breathe deeply and surrender to each wave (contraction). Allow yourself to make whatever sounds come naturally. Trust that God designed your body to birth naturally!! 🤰🏻& if you’re pregnant and need more help preparing for birth, comment “BIRTHFREEBIE” and I’ll send you my free birth course. 🥰🙏🏻

The truth about the “pushing” phase of labour ⤵️ Did you know ... In a normal, undisturbed birth the birthing mother will experience an urge to bear down. This is sometimes referred to as the ‘natural expulsion reflex’ or the ‘fetal ejection reflex’. Cue the eye roll 🙄 It’s true! Nothing on earth can stop us from acting on this strong urge or force! The urge comes from deep within us and is very instinctual. Birthing a baby is very, very similar to doing a poo. A big poo! 😂 Yes! We really did just say that. So, when we are birthing our baby; we don’t want to be holding our breath for long periods of time, turning purple in the face, and going against our instincts whilst performing to the chorus of people instructing us to “push, push, push”! ? It would certainly not be healthy to empty our bowels in such a way, and so (surprise surprise!), it is not healthy for us to hold our breath and forcefully push for an extended period of time when we birth our baby! 👉🏼 You could call what we teach ‘instinctive pushing’ or ‘mother-directed pushing’. Comment below ⬇️ Did you feel the natural urge to bear down? Stay tuned for Part 4 👀 . . . . . . . #birthsupport #homebirth #naturalbirth #birthisbeautiful #waterbirth #caesareanwithoutfear #caesarean #positivebirth #positivebirthmovement #positivebirthaffirmations #positivebirthproject #positivebirthmovementbrisbane #positivebirthjourney #calmbirthsydney #hypnobirthingmelbourne #vaginalbirth #hypnobirthingtechniques #birthisnormal #evidencebasedchildbirthclass #birthingclass #birthingclassessydney #hypnosisforbirthing #mindfulbirth #birth

When baby is coming, BABY IS COMING. Fetal ejection reflex (FER) is when mama’s body invonluntarily pushes baby out. This design is important and we see it all throughout nature. When animals in the wild give birth to their young, they seek out safe solitude where they can give birth, undisturbed. In aminal studies, when mice were disturbed in their laboring process, the fetal ejection reflex was inhibited. When Mama feels the sensation to push, it’s usually best to let her listen to her body’s instinct, because her body and baby know when birth need to happen. It’s happened too many times that a mama starts pushing or says she needs to push and she is actually told not to in order to get the doctor/midwife in to catch the baby. But telling mama not to push is like putting pepper in someone’s nose and telling them not to sneeze… it is practically impossible. In MOST situations, listening to your body’s sensations to guide your baby out is the best way to do it. Remember Mama, your care providers should be working around and for you, your baby, and your birth timeline.

Read this🤍 I legit asked him the next morning…”why you got three bruises on the back of your arm??” 😂😂😂😂😂 This was when his head came out and I resisted the urge to push so I guess I put all that urge into his arm 🙃😅 #itworked I’ve gotten questions about why I resisted the urge to push so I thought I would address that here as well!⬇️ Staying relaxed through when you feel the urge to push allows your uterus to take charge and do the work for you. By giving good deep inhales allowing the body to expand and keeping the pelvic floor as relaxed as possible, this can be the most gentle approach for your body. It’s refereed to as the fetal ejection reflex, there’s no stopping this process when both your baby and body are ready! Sometimes, depending on baby’s positioning or if you’ve had an epidural you’ll need to help and push baby out. Waylons head came out without pushing which was this moment when I squeezed his arm😆 but he ended up raising his arms by his shoulders so I simply lifted my foot under me in a lunge to help open the pelvis! I gave one good push (using my CORE breath) and out the rest of him came! We want the pelvic floor out of the way for birth. So by staying as relaxed as possible down there during this phase the better! This can also reduce the risk of tearing or lessen the severity of it! If/when we need to push- utilizing our core muscles and giving a good exhaled push with our abdominal muscles can be much more effective than bearing down and purple face pushing! I know the reel is humorous but also Hoping this info can be helpful for some expecting mamas preparing for labor❤️❤️ SHARE with expecting mamas you know🤍 REMINDER: Link in my bio for perinatal program including birth prep!! Anyone else confused about why cervical checks are part of routine labour interventions? Personally my cervical check was the most painful part of my entire labour 😣😭 And my fetal ejection reflex which was present before, totally vanished for a good long chunk of time after that check. Here’s some things about cervical checks that you should know: 🤌🏼 Cervical checks are an intervention 🤌🏼 Gloves are not necessarily sterile so cervical checks may increase your risk of infection 🤌🏼 With this in mind does it make any sense to do a cervical check when a Mamas waters have already broken and infection is already a greater risk? 😐 you tell me. 🤌🏼 You are allowed to decline cervical checks if you don’t want them in labour. Or you can specify how and when you want them done. 🤌🏼 In labour your body is gearing up to push something down and out of your vajayjay. Does pushing something up and into it sound like a thing that will support or hinder what your body is trying to do physiologically? 🤌🏼 A woman can go from 2-10cm in 15 mins. She can also be “stuck” at 8cm dilated for hours. Therefore there is no telling how much longer a labour will take by measuring how open the cervix is. 🤌🏼 In nature when an animal senses danger they can stop labour in its tracks. For example cats are known to be able to give birth to half their litter, then if a possible threat is detected then can stop labour, pick up their born kittens, move to safer place and continue to birth the remaining unborn kittens 🤯 What do you think your cervix does when it detects possible danger ? 🤌🏼 There are other non invasive ways of checking how far along a Mama is in labour While cervical checks may have their place when other red and yellow flags are present, are we interfering with physiological birth with how often and how routinely they are performed ? Did you have cervical checks during labour? What was your experience like?
