‼️FETCH ISN’T THE ENEMY ⬇️ blanket statements are. I do believe most trainers and influencers have good intentions when they talk about not playing fetch. But, they end up demonizing fetch… the reality is, it just causes shame, guilt, and fear in many pet parents. Often risking the dog losing one of the highlights of their day, rather than making lifestyle changes… because they don’t have enough information. People need to stop using fear in the name of welfare. Yes, there can be risks. There can be risks in any activity dogs do. But ultimately, trainers are not medical professionals, and they shouldn’t be offering blanket advice on what’s going to ‘cause’ compulsive disorder, or ruin dog’s bodies. When you hear advice, especially on social media, please look at the source it’s coming from… and question how they came up with the information they’re providing you with. If you’re worried, talk to your vet. They are the professional in your dog’s health. Take some video. Discuss whether or not your dog should be playing fetch, and ideas to modify the activity to suit your dog’s needs without losing the game. #dogtrainer #fetch #sciencebasedtraining
