Step 2: Substitute that expression into the other equation. Since y equals 3x − 7, replace y in the second equation: 2x + (3x − 7) = 13 Step 3: Solve for x. Combine like terms: 5x − 7 = 13 Add 7 to both sides: 5x = 20 Divide by 5: x = 4 Step 4: Substitute back to find y. y = 3(4) − 7 y = 12 − 7 y = 5 Solution: (4, 5) This means x = 4 and y = 5 make both equations true.
