Once the nail plate grows out of the matrix, it’s made of dead keratin cells - there’s no oxygen exchange happening on the surface. What actually affects nail health: • Proper prep and adhesion • Preventing moisture from getting trapped under enhancements • Catching lifting early • Understanding where infections really start Most nail infections don’t start on top of the nail. They develop underneath - usually from moisture, lifting, or improper removal. This is why technique, structure, and removal matter more than “letting nails breathe.” Helpful context to keep in mind for client conversations behind the table. 💅

The natural nail does not need to be aggressively thinned to achieve retention. In fact, excessive filing often causes the very problems techs are trying to avoid. Retention comes from correct prep, controlled application, and understanding the nail plate, not removing layers unnecessarily. Protect the natural nail. Always. I had a new client come in today, and we were both so excited! She had been scrolling through my Instagram feed and really had her heart set on a reversed French look. We were vibing and ready to go... until I started removing her old gel extensions. She’d had them done somewhere else, and let me tell you, it was bad. There was so much lifting, and once the product was off, I could see her natural nails were paper-thin and super sensitive. As much as I wanted to give her that beautiful set, I just couldn't do it. Her nail health has to come first. I sat her down and explained everything, and I was so happy that she truly appreciated my care and professional honesty. Instead of a new set, we made a plan to get her natural nails healthy again. We’ve already scheduled our next meeting for after she finishes her treatment—then we’ll finally do that reversed French the right way! #helthynails #nailtechlife #nailtransformation
