Tiny gods, these creatures—luminescent punctuation marks on a sentence whispered by the universe, half-heard and half-remembered.
There’s poetry in the mundane when the mundane begins to glow. The licurici—fireflies, known also as “văpăițe” or “lucioli” in old tales—don’t just light up, they conspire. Folklore paints them as wayward souls or messengers from the other world, flickering between here and there with a mischief only the night understands. Their light isn’t for you, but it feels personal, like someone scribbled secrets on the air just for you to trip over. They float like the punchlines of old village jokes, told under plum trees, over cheap țuică and laughter that outlives the teller. While the world tries to sell you stars through phone screens and filters, here you get the uncut version—raw, blinking, ephemeral. The kind of beauty that refuses to perform.
