SI💔- what can I say? My beautiful autistic angel found a new fixation.
FYI: Fixations are one of the most common characteristics of autism, and many autistic folks experience fixations throughout their lifetime.
We have seen fixations move from remote controls to now leaves. There are times when the fixation is so intense we have to figure out boundaries.
With his treatment coordinator we’ve gone back and forth between leaning into the fixation- like using it to help stimulate interest in other activities and communication but there’s also times when we have to remove the thing (we hid remotes for months). My friend @theatypicaladvocate and I were discussing the value of #extinction as a behavioral therapy technique. So with the tree, we just let him go till he was gone. Cos there was no stopping him. Now there’s no leaves, so I guess we found our way to Extinction.

There is no such thing as just a little bit of autism. However there are levels or ranges of support needs within autism. I am considered a low support needs/ level 1 autistic person.
