KEGateron Type R 🧨
Happy 5th day of CNY!
I have so much to share about this switch, so please take your time to read through!
Firstly, these are the smoothest Gateron switches I’ve ever owned. No crap noise, no scratchiness—just pure smoothness.
What makes the Type R stand out is its unique tactile bump. It starts right at the beginning of the keystroke and continues straight to bottom out. Unlike other tactile switches where you feel the bump on both the downstroke and upstroke, the Type R feels almost like a one-way bump. You only feel the top-out bump when the key returns to the top.
The tactile bump on the Type R is quite pronounced, but due to the full bottom-out tactile feedback, it becomes less prominent. This unique combination makes the switch feel heavier during long typing sessions, yet it remains a very satisfying tactile switch to type on.
Among all my Gateron switches, the Type R stands out for its clean sound and smooth feel. These switches have a short travel distance of only 3mm, putting them on the clackier side. However, the PA66 housings keep the overall sound quieter compared to many other tactile switches.
I find this switch’s sound to be strikingly similar to firecrackers, but with a more muted, soothing tone 😆🧨🧨🧨
As a linear girlie, I was surprised to find the Type R earning a spot among my top switches. Its unique tactile bump and feel make it special. Although it’s a bit heavy for daily use, it’s definitely a switch I’d reach for when I want that distinctive typing experience.
