As long as there have been trees, trees have been dying — it is a process as normal and as natural and as essential as the life of trees, and entire communities of organisms have built their lives and their evolutionary identities around it. In the same way, cutting trees and managing forests can be done in ways that degrade forests AND can be vital tools to help make forests healthier, more diverse and more resilient.
