A couple of weeks ago someone near Noosa, Australia posted these beautiful Shindo Laboratory Western Electric 300B amps for sale on the Australian site Stereonet. [Edit: image credit @gregjcartwright ] The custom speakers in the background of a couple of the pics caught my eye! Speakers are Wolf Von Langa field coil compression drivers with a OMA 300hz horn, JBL 2245 bass and Fostex t500amkii. Turntable is a modified Garrard 301 with shindo tonearm. The woofer cabinet was built by well known local speaker maker Mike Lenehan. I’ve cleaned and demagnetize his tape machine more than you can believe, tried multiple tapes that are all really premium quality and after using it for like five minutes, it still rips the tape off. I did leave the tape threaded over the heads for like two months at one point on accident when I was traveling, which may have super magnetized them?? I spent hours demagnetizing it the other day and it still didn’t work though… this post is me venting and also calling for help? Inspired by @sonauramusic, everyday I’ll record myself jamming little snippets of my play time. Not for any particular project; album or outcome - just for accountability and offer a glimpse into what I’m doing in my studio most days anyway.
