The fire is making a run this afternoon. “Highway 115 remains clear and the fire made a significant run to the east and north. Air resources are working along the west flank of the fire per incident command. High winds and hot, dry temperatures have increased the fire’s activity, with the fire now standing at approximately 1,126 acres and 0% containment. There are currently 125 firefighters from local, state, and federal partners on the ground” Thanks to the subscriber who shared these views of operations on the ground. Strong gusty winds are impacting the fire’s behavior. Another large fire, the Deer Fire, is burning in the same general area. A 670-acre wildfire burning Friday on Fort Carson land in Fremont County closed Colorado 115 for about six miles. The 24 fire started Wednesday and grew rapidly Thursday due to strong winds, said Dee McNutt, spokeswoman for the Army post. There was zero containment of the fire. It’s dry out there. And it doesn’t take much. Take a look at this fire from last night along 6th Avenue. From the air, it looks bigger that it really was- about one acre. But one acre with potential. The potential to move toward fence lines and homes. 🔥 Crews kept it small with quick work. Like 80 - 90% of all wildfires, this was human-caused. Although not caused by immediate human behavior. Instead, electrical failure of infrastructure. It started when a malfunctioning electrical box on a lighted highway sign dropped sparks into the dry grass below. That’s it. That’s all it takes right now. Stay aware. Stay ready. And don’t underestimate how fast things can go from nothing… to this. 🔥🚒 #westmetrofirerescue #wildfire #colorado #firefighters
