Today I had a client who asked why her lower lateral leg muscles were so tight and I asked how she walked. The feet were turned out and I suggested releasing the peroneals, the muscles shown here, which should help, along with working on mindfulness in making sure that when standing, walking or running she’s checking in to be sure her toes are turned forward. Gait and technique are important components of performance, but are often overlooked, and should certainly be considered when purchasing a new pair of running shoes to no only be fit for purpose - trail, long distance, short distance running or even everyday trainers.🏃🏼‍♀️👟 Gait analysis is the process of looking at how your body movements / biomechanics work, as you walk or run. This analysis begins & end with your feet, but it incorporates your entire body. Gait analysis will look out for your arm swing phase (early or late), ground contact (pronation or supination) & stance. By analysing our gait we can see to improve our running efficiency, reduce likelihood of injury, ensure consistency of training, and in turn positively affect training progress and thus results.💪🏼 When picking a pair of trainers its very important to remember… 👟The most expensive pair isn’t necessarily the right pair for you, so don’t be tempted into thinking that a higher price is a better shoe. 👟Its advised to buy trainers half a size to a size larger than your normal shoes to accommodate foot movement and swelling whilst running. 👟Shoes that might feel comfortable to you when walking about the shop won’t necessarily feel that way when running, so make sure that you always take the shoes you intend to buy onto the treadmill for a test run. I had my gait analysis @runnersneed |AD and was recommended @brooksrunninguk Ghost 15 @hoka_eu Clifton 9 @on Cloudflow 4 @asicsrunning Gel-Cumulus 25 Personally for my running style - neutral with strong knees from strength training, & needing a shoe with a little more heel cushion to mitigate heal strike & go to middle foot strike more, plus the fact I’m returning from injury I chose the @asicsrunning Gel Cumulus 25 trainers along with the @hilly.running.socks marathon socks. I would highly recommend to head down to your local @runnersneed to get a gait analysis - free with any shoe purchase, or appx £15 - regardless if you are new to running or experienced. It’s your body & you only have one so look after it.
