MAThere are a lot of things I’ve always wanted to be able to do on the violin and a decent staccato is one of them— and Ivry’s insane video of Elgar’s ‘La Capricieuse’ is so wild and virtuosic it inspired me to actually practise the technique, because it’s not as some people say, something you are born with or not, you can learn it like anything else. We def can’t all play staccato like Ivry but if it’s even halfway there we’re doing pretty good.
Recently I’ve been practising pieces or even just little bits of pieces not because I have a gig coming up bit because I like them and some of them are challenging in a fun way, like a little project. Actually I took a break from this piece and today had a go, something clicked… but this is the best of a few takes and I wouldn’t trust myself to use it in public.. yet! 🤞🏻
I really believe that anyone can learn anything on the violin, we just get diverted a lot of the time by negative learning patterns, by fear, and by lack of practical knowledge about how the hands actually should work. I’m still figuring it out, but dropping all the crap gets you closer and it’s a lot more fun.
