I wasn’t sure if I was going to post this because it felt a little ✨negative✨which isn’t really the vibe I want to bring to running but this is the reality of training for something that you personally find really challenging. I do still love to run, despite how this video may come across 😅 To be totally honest, this isn’t how I expected my last long run before my half marathon to go, but sometimes your body is like ‘nice try babe but not today’, and that’s been SUCH a big learning throughout my running journey 🏃🏻‍♀️ (also, double gins a couple days before WILL NOT help x ) #slowrunner #slowrunnersclub #halfmarathontraining #marathontraining #backofthepack

Tips for a successful half marathon or full marathon prep! With every training cycle there’s always so much to be gained. Following a plan is key, but then applying these points will help you get the most out of your build! 1. Keep your easy days EASY. As you go through your half or full marathon build, volume increases, mileage gets higher, workouts get harder. You won’t be able to put the most into your hard sessions if you’re not recovered properly. Easy effort days are intentional for a reason! 2. Keep your hard days HARD. Push yourself, get uncomfortable. The hard days are what make race pace feel ‘easier.’ 3. Practice fueling DURING your runs. Fueling & hydrating well in and around your training is crucial for having a good race. Get your stomach used to it so that there are no surprises on race day. Have a plan! Also… it will be messy at first 😅 My go-to gels and fueling strategies are always @bpnsupps code “melissa” 4. Prioritize strength training and mobility. This will help prevent injury, make you a more resilient athlete… not to mention faster, stronger, and go into race day feeling strong. As a tip, leave reps in reserve so that you can continue to hit all your workouts throughout your build. 5. Get a good pair of running shoes. Investing in good shoes is essential— and if you can, have a shoe rotation. 6. Incorporate at least 1-2 rest days a week. This helps prevent injury and burnout, as well as will allow you to recover, rebuild and gain the benefits from all your hard efforts. Included in this is focusing on SLEEP. 7. Trust yourself and enjoy the process. Training for any distance event is A LOT of time and energy, so embrace the process and learn to enjoy it! Use every day to your advantage, celebrate the small wins— your race, your pace.
