Go as slow as can on the way down - still try and control the fall past the point where you can to continue to work the hamstrings 2. Only use your arms as much as you need to come back up 3. Keep the shoulders, hips, and knees all in one line as you lower If you don’t have a @baseblocks base bench pro, you can have someone hold your feet or use a heavy piece of furniture to tuck your feet under. At home or don’t have access to a seated hamstring curl? I got you 😎 . These are one of my favorite substitutions! All you need is a band and a bench. . - choke a band around something sturdy. I use @elitefts bands. - put the band behind your ankles. - slight posterior tilt. I find this engages your hams a tiny bit more 🍗 - sit on a bench, curl and squeeze at the end of the movement. . Details ⬇️ - Advanced to Beginner 1️⃣ Advanced progression - place one foot high box and flex the foot and knee to stay active. Think about pushing your heel into the ground as you perform this exercise. Use weight of your choosing to get deeper into the stretch and you hinge 2️⃣ Mid progression - Lower the box to a suitable level and repeat the same movement. Remember stay active! 3️⃣ Beginner progression - perform a staggered RDL. Keep the working leg active and the back straight as you hinge. 📝 All variations are strengthening the hamstrings through a stretched position! This means we are adding length, as well and strength! Hamstring curls, also known as leg curls, are isolation exercises that target the hamstring muscles on the backs of your legs. . TIP: make sure you’re engaging your core. A lot of the times we focus so much on our legs and curling our legs up that we let our midsection go without maintaining control of our core. Keeping your core engage and maintaining a flat back during this exercise is key to doing it properly. . Too much weight and an unengaged core (aka poor form) can cause pressure on the lower back and lower back pain. . Summary: Activate your core and keep your back straight as you bend your knees. Lift your lower legs closer to your glutes, pausing at the top of the movement, and extend them slowly back down. . Training tip Tuesday!! How to do hamstring curls from home. We don't all have access to a hamstring curl machine but you can recreate this exercise from home with a single DB. One really great way to make for stronger knees is to strengthen our hamstrings. ✨ -Select a DB - I'd recommend a lighter DB to practice and then once you get the hang of it, add that heavier weight! -Start on the ground in prone position. -Place DB in between your feet and squeeze to lift -Head and neck in neutral and relaxed/comfortable position -Brace your core and curl feet until feet hit that mark above knees -Maintain that hamstring contraction as you curl and then lower slowly back to the ground Try 3 sets of 8-12 reps I love doing this exercise from home and I hope you do too! Stretching your hamstrings every day is a waste of time. If you can’t do 15 solid hamstring bridges, then your hamstrings aren’t “tight” — they’re weak. And your brain is keeping them tense to protect you. That’s why stretching feels good for a few hours but never fixes the problem. It’s just a bandaid. The tension always comes back. The real fix is building active strength so your brain trusts your hamstrings to actually lengthen. That’s when the tightness finally goes away.
