TUTelling African stories and celebrating the woman’s form, one piece at a time.
This was the one where @ciara called, and we made her a global Iria maiden.
Inspired by one of the most ancient African traditions, the sacred Iria ceremony of the Ijaw people, a rite of passage where girls emerge as women, bare breasted, painted in oil and trained with pride, this piece reimagines that moment of a woman BECOMING.
And who better to embody that spirit than @ciara , a woman whose rhythm, grace, and evolution mirror the Iria essence itself. Through her, we see what it means to move with purpose, to dance through the seasons of womanhood, and to wear strength as softly as a second skin.
From the creeks of the Niger Delta to global stages, culture can be couture and heritage can be haute!!!

TUAs Creative Director at TUBO, the privilege of telling African stories through couture is unmatched.
Anita first came to us for her Igbo after-party look, but in conversation she discovered my Rivers State roots. That connection, coupled with her desire to honor her new family’s heritage, inspired her to entrust us with her Ikwere look as well, a decision made less than two weeks before the wedding.
With the help of my father sourcing authentic Rivers wrappers in record time, and in collaboration with the brilliant @thewardrobemanager, we crafted an ensemble that spoke deeply to heritage and authenticity.
In one lighthearted moment, Anita mistook the plain George wrapper for “fake Burberry” 😅🤣, a reminder that so much of what the world celebrates in Western fashion finds its origin, and sometimes its quiet theft, in African design.
This piece remains one of my proudest, not only for its artistry, but for the heartfelt smile and nod of approval it earned from her “mother in love.” 🥰 🫂
