Thankfully we had @nanimombabyfoods broths - making cooking a breeze and adding so much flavours to the food ❤️ @haruplate’s sugar-free jam was added to her oatmeal and yogurt bark to add sweetness ✨

🔍 HOW TO SPOT HFMD 📌 Fever — usually the first sign 📌 Sore throat and loss of appetite 📌 Painful sores inside the mouth 📌 Rash of small blisters on hands, feet, and sometimes the diaper area Symptoms appear 3 to 6 days after exposure. Young kids may not tell you their throat hurts so watch for drooling and refusing to eat. 🟢 WHAT TO DO ✔ Give acetaminophen or ibuprofen for fever and pain ✔ Offer cold foods — popsicles, smoothies, cold water ✔ Keep them home until fever is gone and blisters are healing ✔ Wash hands thoroughly after diaper changes and contact with saliva 🔴 WHAT NOT TO DO ✔ Never give aspirin to children — it can cause a rare and serious condition called Reye syndrome ✔ Don't send them back to daycare until fever resolves and sores are healing ✔ Don't pop the blisters 🚨 CALL YOUR DOCTOR OR GO IN IF: 📌 No wet diaper in 6 to 8 hours 📌 Dry lips, no tears when crying, dark urine 📌 Fever lasting more than 3 days 📌 Your child becomes very difficult to wake up or unusually limp 📌 Baby under 3 months with any fever — same day, every time Most children recover fully from Hand Foot and Mouth Diseasein 7 to 10 days. This is viral — antibiotics will not help. LOTS of Hand, Foot & Mouth going around. ‼️Note: I have a very thorough helpful post on my website which covers what you need to know (symptoms, causes, transmission, timeline, etc). In this reel, I’m answering parent FAQs about HFM (add yours in the comments). 🔹What is going on in the video? 🔸Onychomadesis (where the nail is shed) & skin peeling are known complications of HFMD, usually occurring 2-6 weeks after illness. Other illnesses (eg scarlet fever) can cause it too. ❗️It looks gnarly, but is NOT a reason to panic. Cut away hanging skin so your child is not tempted to peel it, but beyond good skincare/hygiene no other intervention is needed. It will get better on its own. 🔹Can adults get it? 🔸Yes 😳 🔹How do I prevent spread? 🔸Wash hands well, esp after diaper changes. Use soap & water. Keep in mind that the virus can be shed for > 6 weeks BUT most shedding happens in the early phase. 🔸Disinfect frequently touched household surfaces at least 1-2x/ day (doorknobs, counters, etc) 🔸For toys: see separate post 🔹Does my child need to stay home? Yes. Stay home as rash is continuing to spread, or if there are open/weeping sores. Keep them home until they are fever free for 24h, all sores are scabbed over, & feeling better (able to stay hydrated, more active) 🔹Can it be worse with eczema? 🔸Yes. Kids with eczema often have more severe outbreaks of HFMD (called “Eczema Coxsackium”) 🔹Can you get it more than once? 🔸Yes. Multiple strains of coxsackie can cause the illness, so it is possible to get this multiple times. 🔹What else can I do to help my child? 🔸I go into more detail on the blog, but here are 4 tips: ➡️ OTC pain relievers ➡️ Magic mouthwash can help but there is a lot of variability in terms of recipes and specifics - many contain a liquid antacid (talk to your ped to see if it is appropriate for your child) ➡️ Popsicles and cool jello. Limit salty, spicy & acidic foods. ‼️Dehydration is the most common complication! ➡️ for the rash: colloidal oatmeal is MAGIC. Also cool compresses and diaper ointment! 2 months after the illness burst onto the scene, Hand Foot & mouth disease is still around & spreading. In a recent video @drniharparekh mentions that the relapse can come as early as 15 days. With immunity being low after 2 years of staying indoors and kids going back to school, it's possible to fall back into the disease within 2-3 weeks of first recovering from it. Worried? Don't be. Second time around the severity is reduced, and it won't be as painful as the first time for our kids. While all this can be too much we can rest easy knowing that HFMD won't cause any long term or short term complications. Jika tidak ditangani dengan tepat, anak bisa dehidrasi dan dirawat di rumah sakit. Lepuhan di kulit bisa terasa gatal dan sakit saat berjalan. Dan yang menjadi mimpi buruk orangtua, berat badan si kecil bisa terjun bebas saat terkena HFMD. HFMD sangat menular karena memiliki cara penularan yang paling banyak diantara penyakit anak lainnya: melalui droplet dari batuk & bersin, melalui feses, dan melalui cairan dari lepuhan kulit. Penelitian juga menunjukkan virus bisa bertahan di feses hingga 54 hari di feses, dan hingga 30 hari di tenggorokan sehingga membuat ancaman virus ini di tempat umum lebih besar.
