I met my mother-in-law when I was in high school as a teenager, myself so I saw the pro in action more times than I can count. I didn't realize it then but as a mom of teens... the woman was brilliant. Whenever us teenagers would have boredom hit while at her house or the mumbling about going to grab some food or leaving to do X,Y or Z. She didn't SAY anything or tell us what to do or give ideas... She'd just quietly pull out the ice cream and blender for milkshakes Or the waffle iron for fresh waffles Or the popcorn popper Or the griddle for pancakes Honestly, as a teenager we didn't care what was actually being made it was the excitement of having a yummy treat and something to look forward to that quickly deterred the thoughts to go out. It didn't matter if it was 6:00 or 11:00, she knew the safety that came from keeping a group of teenagers at home instead of letting boredom kick in and start roaming the town. Now, as a mom of teens when the mumbling starts, I go to the next thing... grabbing the blender, starting some warm cookies or whipping up a batch of pancakes still hasn't failed me yet!
