JEThere’s something about a race weekend that turns a city into an experience. And, Portland delivered.
First off, the weather was phenomenal. We started with the expo…it is that familiar buzz of runners wandering the aisles pretending they’re “just picking up their bib” while contemplating buying things they absolutely do NOT need. New shoes? Maybe. Another hat? Obviously. I bought some @oofos
Then came the wandering.
Artist market, shoe shops, bookstores, boutique shops, coffee stops, and restaurants where the pre-race carb loading feels nothing like strategy and definitively a celebration of being somewhere new.
Sunday morning brought the real reason for the trip. Thousands of runners moving through the streets together, nerves humming, and shoes hitting pavement. All that anticipation before the start. The collective understanding that everyone there had trained for this moment in their own way. Respect.
And then Portland reminded us it has challenges to running. Enter Terwilliger Hill. The kind of climb that makes you regret why you signed up for a few minutes…before the course opens up again and you remember exactly why you came: the view of Mount Hood atop was awesome.
The miles kept rolling. The runners had a lot of fun. And, that finish line appeared exactly when it was supposed to.
You know that race weekends are NOT just about the race. They are about the travel, the people watching, the people you are with, the food, and the wandering around a city with tired legs and a happy heart.

ZAThings are heating up in PDX🔥
Last Sunday, @fonzoozal battled in a close race to place 2nd in the final meters (22:57) while @moisesemmm placed 16th with a massive 75 second PR (24:03) at the @shamrockpdx 8k🍀
Today, Moi closed out his training block with a speedy season’s best of 3:57 in the 1500m, placing 6th overall!
Next Saturday, Jake chases a US Outdoor Track qualifying time at @soundrunning ‘s the TEN🤞
It has been a busy & exciting month for this small & mighty crew!🚂

Shamrock Run – Portland March 15, 2026 One of Portland’s longest-running races with multiple distances including a half marathon, 8K, and 5K through downtown.

Tualatin River Run – Tualatin March 28, 2026 A flat and beginner-friendly 5K along the Tualatin River Greenway path. Stroller friendly: Yes.
Bridge to Brews – Portland April 19, 2026 A popular race where runners get the rare chance to run across the Fremont Bridge, followed by a post-race brewfest. Stroller friendly: Yes (5K and 8K).
Cinco de Mayo Run – Portland May 3, 2026 A festive race with 5K, 10K, and half marathon options and a lively celebration at the finish line. Stroller friendly: Yes (5K).
Sole Sisters Run – Wilsonville May 30, 2026 A women’s race offering a half marathon, 10K, and 5K along scenic Wilsonville trails and neighborhoods. Stroller friendly: Yes but very hard.
