This fluoride-free toothpaste strengthens enamel and prevents cavities as effectively as fluoride - but without the potential risks. Hydroxyapatite is a naturally occurring mineral that does the same job as fluoride: repairing and protecting teeth naturally.
If fluoride is the “cure-all,” then why are cavity rates in the U.S. still on the rise? I fully acknowlege that research is mixed, but I wouldn’t share this if I hadn’t had a first hand experience. I grew up getting 1-2 cavities a year and using fluoride toothpaste morning a night. So I don’t beleive fluoride toothpaste is a cure-all. I believe in my lived experiences.
However, a few years ago after doing my own research and testing, I successfully remineralized a small cavity by using hydroxyapatite toothpaste and coconut oil pulling (2 minutes every morning and night).
Studies suggest fluoride has potential links to neurotoxicity, thyroid issues, and risks to pregnant women and kids. The problem isn’t just the fluoride in our toothpaste - it’s the combination of fluoride from toothpaste, fluoride in our water supply, and exposure through processed foods and beverages made with fluoridated water. This cumulative exposure adds up!
Our household doesn’t use fluoride toothpaste. Instead, we use @getsuperteeth which contains hydroxyapatite - the mineral that makes up 97% of your enamel and 70% of your dentin. It works by repairing micro-damage, strengthening enamel, and preventing cavities. Bonus: it’s non-toxic, safe if swallowed, and free of the foaming, burning, or tingling sensations that don’t actually help clean your teeth.
If you’re still getting cavities despite using fluoride, it might be time to try something different.
Pro Tip: Chewing xylitol gum after meals can help prevent food from sticking to your molars and reduce cavity risk!

TENano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) vs. fluoride: my honest take! 🦷✨
I’m not anti-nHA—but without regulation, it’s hard to recommend it over fluoride. Fluoride toothpaste is regulated and more effective than nHA in acidic conditions. Plus, not all nHA toothpaste is created equal—many lack the necessary 10% nano-sized particles, which are crucial for effectiveness.
✨ Until nHA gets proper oversight, I’m sticking with fluoride, but I remain open-minded for those who choose to use it (and I’ll continue educating about the importance of 10% nano-size particles). A lot of trust goes into companies making honest claims, and I hope to see regulatory approval one day. nHA toothpaste has great potential, but only when it meets the right concentration, particle size, and shape. Hopefully the bar will soon be raised to hold fluoride alternatives to the same high standards as fluoride. Until then, let’s keep the conversation kind and evidence-based!
✨Additionally, nHA toothpaste is expensive—often $20-$30 per tube for those that actually contain 10%. I can’t confidently recommend something so costly without knowing for sure that it contains what it claims. If a patient refuses fluoride, I’ll suggest nHA options, but I also make sure to educate them. Without regulatory oversight, we can’t guarantee these nHA products work as advertised or that they contain the necessary 10% nano-sized particles.

nHAp works by absorbing into your teeth and filling spaces caused by demineralization. So it helps remineralize enamel from the inside out. It also helps repel cavity-causing bacteria from your teeth.
While fluoride is more common and considered the gold standard in the U.S., nHAp is actually considered the gold standard in Japan. nHAp also has a few added benefits: it helps reduce sensitivity and has natural whitening properties.
