Read this before race day👇🏼 Let’s talk timing — because showing up late and frazzled is not the vibe. ✔️ 1–2 weeks out: A temporary schedule will be posted on the HYROX website. This gives you a rough idea of when your division might start. 
✔️ 2–3 days out: You’ll get your exact start time (check your email + the HYROX site). Use that time and work backwards to plan your arrival. Here’s a practical breakdown: 🔹 Athlete check-in: Expect long queues — 45 min to an hour is realistic. Some events offer early check-in 1–2 days before — 100% recommend this if you want to skip the chaos. 🔹 Venue walk-through: Give yourself 30 minutes to walk around, see how the race flows, and watch others on the course. Great way to calm nerves and visualise your own race. 🔹 Warm-up: You’ll want at least 45 minutes to properly warm up, activate key muscles, and mentally prep. 🔹 Staying nearby? If your race isn’t until the afternoon and you’re close to the venue: Check in early, go back to your hotel to chill, and come back 90 minutes before your start time. 🔹 Sensory overload alert: Hyrox venues are loud, bright, and full of energy. For some of us (👋🏼), that means a spike in heart rate before the race even starts. Thinking of joining Hyrox but worried about your time? 🥹 That was me a year ago.. Trust me, I contemplated Hyrox for weeks before I mustered the courage to rally 4 others. Then I never looked back! It was an absolute blast from training with @f45_punggolplaza , all the way to the competition itself! 💪🏼 Also, at the starting line for Women's Relay (last year), I spoke to ladies who only ran casually and gym once or twice a week! Doesn't matter where you're at, showing up to Hyrox is a feat in itself 💯 So, if you're planning to join for fun - try the Relay (Men's/Women's/Mixed). If you’re doing your first HYROX, here are a few things you must know 🏃🏻‍♀️🏋🏻 First — running is almost everything. Like 80 to 90 percent of the race is running. You can learn stations in a month, but running takes time — so start early. Second — Roxzone time counts. Walking around, resting too long, or getting confused between stations can cost you more time than the workout itself. Third — don’t race the first kilometer. HYROX is long. If you go too fast early, it comes back to hurt you later. Fourth — fuel matters more than you think. Training or racing under-fuelled makes everything feel harder than it should. Don't ruin all the hard work you've put in to get to this point in the 7 days leading up to your HYROX race day. Here's what you should proritise (assuming a Saturday race)... 1. Taper down training - keep intensity high but volume low in workouts and runs... Do this Sunday through Weds and avoid heavy eccentric loaded lifting or any muscle soreness inducing workouts . 2. Preserve muscle glycogen (your stored energy used in the race) in the 2-3 days leading up to the race by avoiding long tiring workouts. Get some easy 20-30 min cardio done on Thursday and maybe a short sharp 'priming' session Friday. 3. Proritise sleep (quality and quantity) across the week. Be disciplined with your time - get to bed early. Avoid too many stressful situations where possible. 4. Stay hydrated and think about adding some electrolytes to your drinks. You need to be fully hydrated on the day and water alone isn't enough so take supplements with you. 5. Ensure you fuel up by eating well (small calorie surplus daily) and shift the balance of macro nutrients to higher carbs. No need to Carb load for 2 or 3 days but do have a good amount of Carbs all day Friday and Saturday morning. Avoid high fibre foods to help digestion in the days leading up to your race. 6. Your pre race fuel will depend on the time of race. Work back from your start time as a.m and P.M race starts will differ. Ensure you have an intra and post race nutrition plan. Eat the same things you usually do. The morning of isn't the time to try new foods or supps 7. Plan your travel and race day so you're not rushing or stressed out. TOP TIPS FOR HYROX BEGINNERS ‼️💡 If your new to Hyrox, maybe you have a race coming up in Manchester next week or somewhere else soon and are nervous going into it…. Here are a few top tips to help you in that first race: 1️⃣ ENJOY IT! Most important one, you paid to be there and after you have your time and data from first race, you will no doubt be desperate to beat it so make sure the first one is as enjoyable as possible and enjoy the atmosphere, the buzz and the race itself! 2️⃣ HYROX SIMS - these are becoming more and more popular now which is amazing BUT do not go into your first race expecting to get the time you got in your Hyrox sim as you will only be disappointed! Usually you can look to add on between 5-10 mins from your average Hyrox Sim to the real thing! 3️⃣ FOOTWEAR - the famous Hyrox question “what trainers should I wear”! Ultimately wear what works for you best but they must be comfortable to run in for onvious reasons but also give you enough grip for those sleds! So many trainers are great for Hyrox now but choose what’s best for you, not what you see solely on social media! I wouldn’t recommend wearing a brand new pair out the box for race day! Wear them a few times prior to get used to them! 4️⃣ DONT BE STATION HERO 🤦🏼‍♂️ - so many people get wrapped in trying to absolutely hammer the stations and then hit a brick wall on the runs! Just remember that 50-60% of the race is running so don’t blow yourself up on the stations and then slow right down on the main thing that will have the biggest effect on overall time! It’s all great smashing record time on burpee broad jumps or sled push, but not if it means the rest of your race is 💩 5️⃣ RUN THE ROXZONES - the roxzone is the section between the stations and the IN / OUT banners, try to see this as part of your run and pick up your pace here and shake off the lactic acid ready to smash the run or get into the next station zone! Dont see it as rest, this is all accounted for! Hope this helps! HYROX London isn’t a normal HYROX. One lap. Massive venue. Huge waves. Completely different feel. If you’re racing this weekend, these 10 points will help you keep your head straight and your race clean. 1. The venue is huge. Athlete check-in, bag drop, or just to look around. Do it early. Don’t start your race day stressed because you queued for 30 minutes. 2. The warm-up area gets rammed. Give yourself more time than you think. If you turn up late, you’ll have a poor warm up and rush everything. 3. Start waves are big. If you want the front, get there early. If not, sit back, settle in, and run your race from a calmer place. 4. One lap only. You cannot get lost and you don’t count laps. Just remember your next station. If you forget, the board before the ‘in’arch shows your name and the station number. 5. Your run splits will look weird. Each run is roughly 750m, not 1km. Don’t lose your head over pace numbers. 6. The Roxzone is massive and straight. Expect to spend eight minutes plus inside it. Settle your breathing, know your order, and keep your flow. 7. Under the arch. Keep moving. On sleds, ergs and wall balls, the distance from the arch to your station is longer than you think. Don’t switch off. 8. The fast lane is policed. Great for faster athletes, but stay aware. If you’re running past the later stations, the space gets busy with athletes coming out of earlier stations. If you are in the fast lane, expect traffic. 9. Entering stations takes attention. Judges and volunteers are dealing with chaos. Look early, find your lane, don’t drift. 10. The atmosphere is insane. Thousands of people in one space. Enjoy it. You won’t have raced another HYROX like this one. Good luck to everyone stepping out this weekend.
