THEvery IB student says it.
“This is the hardest high school program in the world.”
“It’s brutal.”
“Our friends in A-levels or AP have it easy.”
I used to think that too.
But here’s the truth.
IB is not actually harder in terms of content.
There are programs out there that are way more intense.
The Spanish baccalaureate, for example, is much harder academically than IB.
So what is hard about IB?
It’s not the subjects.
It’s the volume.
The extras.
CAS.
TOK.
The EE.
Six subjects instead of three or four.
IB isn’t harder.
It’s just harder to manage.
And that’s where most students mess up.
Almost all the pressure in IB is packed into DP2.
IAs.
Mocks.
EE deadlines.
Final exams.
So DP2 feels like hell.
But the students who make IB “easy” do one thing differently.
They spread the load.
They use DP1 properly.
They start IAs early.
They do past papers earlier than they’re told to.
They draft the EE in the summer.
If they can, they take an anticipated subject and get it out of the way.
By the time DP2 comes around, they’re not drowning.
They’re just finishing things off.
IB isn’t harder than other systems.
It just punishes bad time management.
Fix that,
and suddenly IB feels… manageable.
