INTrace Automation designed a specialized machine for sorting 3D-printed miniature parts using multiple Cognex cameras and a DENSO Robotics robot. The HMI is Ignition Edge with Perspective visualization. Edge communicates with the customer's Ignition Gateway, which makes API calls to their MES system to receive and pass information to the Edge HMI and to the Rockwell Automation PLC controller on the machine. This video shows some of the setup and the HMI sequencing.

The sequence code goes from step to step with one action at each step, such as picking up a part, or moving to a new location. By checking each step, this ensures the machine has met the conditions needed to move to the next step.

Using the Ignition Perspective Module and Ignition Edge HMI, operations staff can easily click on a step and see all the conditions needed to advance for that step. This is a simple way of giving an operator feedback on what the machine is doing, along with giving them a simple way to troubleshoot problems if they occur.

Trace Automation is continuing to release videos on this project, including showing how they pass data back and forth from a local machine PLC to the Ignition Edge HMI, to a main Ignition SCADA Gateway, and then to an MES system, or the same process in reverse (PLC to MES or MES to PLC).
