“7 years ago, the doctors told me, ‘You’ll not be able to walk again…’ Back in school, I was a star athlete. Everyone would tell me, ‘You will bring the next gold medal for India.’ But randomly, I started getting cramps in my legs…& soon, I began limping. The doctors said, ‘It’s calcium deficiency.’ I was put on painkillers, but even that stopped working. Numerous tests & surgeries later, the doctors said, ‘Your daughter has bone cancer.’ I was 13. I was told, ‘Thode din hospital me rehna padega.’ Every other day, I was taken for chemo or a blood transfusion. I had knots all over my body. I would shriek in pain. I would think, ‘Why me?’ I hated my life. The doctor said, ‘We will have to remove a part of your hip where the cancer has spread. And because of this, the length of both your legs will never be equal.’ Every day a dream of mine was getting crushed under the weight of my cancer. They removed a part of my hip & put pins on my knees. After going through 10 surgeries, a year later in 2018, the doctor finally said, ‘You’re cancer-free, but we don’t know if you will ever live a normal life again.’ A ray of hope was given to me & then snatched away within seconds. I began going to school again…but with a walker. Seeing other kids live a normal life hurt me. I even started physiotherapy. It helped–soon I began using a stick to walk. I felt like I didn’t have a purpose in life… But things changed in 2019…the hospital had organized an event for cancer survivors & I was asked to perform. I thought, ‘People will laugh at me.’ But as I went on the stage & began dancing, all I could hear was the crowd cheering & hooting. That day, I felt like I was someone…someone more than my illness. And from then on, I took up every opportunity I got—I danced wherever I could, I won a beauty pageant for cancer survivors & I even began spreading awareness amongst other cancer patients. Today, I’m 20 & people invite me to colleges & schools to talk about my journey. These last 7 years have not been short of challenges, but I never gave up. Because I have heard, ‘Life is all about placing bets, & I have placed mine…on me. And I’m here for the win!”

Experiencing occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. However, people with anxiety disorders frequently have intense, excessive and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations. Often, anxiety disorders involve repeated episodes of sudden feelings of intense anxiety and fear or terror that reach a peak within minutes (panic attacks). These feelings of anxiety and panic interfere with daily activities, are difficult to control, are out of proportion to the actual danger and can last a long time. You may avoid places or situations to prevent these feelings. Symptoms may start during childhood or the teen years and continue into adulthood. Examples of anxiety disorders include generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder (social phobia), specific phobias and separation anxiety disorder. You can have more than one anxiety disorder. Sometimes anxiety results from a medical condition that needs treatment. Common anxiety signs and symptoms include: Feeling nervous, restless or tense Having a sense of impending danger, panic or doom Having an increased heart rate Breathing rapidly (hyperventilation) Sweating Trembling Feeling weak or tired Trouble concentrating or thinking about anything other than the present worry Having trouble sleeping Experiencing gastrointestinal (GI) problems Having difficulty controlling worry Having the urge to avoid things that trigger anxiety This can feel like a crushing weight that is very hard to lift. 🥺💔 This kitty is made as a representation of the illness and to also help draw awareness. If you were me you would have given up a long time ago... I have been proper down and out countless times now and each time I wonder how I'm going to rebuild and somehow I manage to scrape myself back from what felt impossible. There are days where I want to cry and I mourn what I lost, there are days when I am motivated to get back on my feet. So I won't lie, it is tough. But I honestly can't imagine my life not being what it used to, so there is no other option. *spends 5 minutes in public* *comes down with a fever* 🫠 If you follow me, you saw that last week I was in Texas at an industry summit, shaking hands, meeting new people, and speaking on the main stage! It was 4 days of travel, events, people, networking, partying, and no sleep. But while the average person can make it out of these work events alive, my immunocompromised body reminded me this week that it cannot. Even though my Crohn’s Disease has been in remission for 10 years, and my ostomy bag keeps me alive, I still suffer with a low immune system. Crohn’s is an autoimmune disease, so even when the actual symptoms are at bay, my body is just all around weaker. I also don’t usually post myself when I feel and look like a$$, but sometimes it’s important to remind people that even though I “don’t look sick,” I will always be less healthy than the average person, and have to plan my life accordingly. It sucks, but it’s what life has given me.
