ME📢Great to see Australia's peak body for GPs raising their voice to call for WA to join other Australian states in making the #MeningococcalB vaccine FREE and readily available to ALL West Australian babies and teens.
👩⚕️The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners says WA must follow the lead of other states and make the vaccine free for under 2s and 15-19 year olds.
💵"Currently, the $140 cost for the MenB vaccine puts it out of reach of many parents," says RACGP Vice President and WA Chair Dr Ramya Raman.
"Out-of-pocket costs shouldn’t prevent parents from protecting their children. Breaking this cost barrier will get shots in arms."
💉The National Immunisation Program’s subsidised MenACWY vaccine only offers protection against the Meningococcal A, C, W, and Y strains - but Meningococcal B accounts for more than 80% of cases.
☑️"We have seen in other states that meningococcal B vaccination programs significantly cut rates amongst children and adolescents," Dr Raman said.
"There is a solution available."
