Suku Mollo berada di Kabupaten Timor Tengah Selatan, Nusa Tenggara Timur. Aleta Baun yang dikenal sebagai Mama Aleta, bersama masyarakat adat Mollo berhasil menyelamatkan Pegunungan Mutis dari ancaman kerusakan akibat penambangan marmer di sana.
Dengan cara damai, mereka melakukan aksi protes unik: menenun di bawah kaki gunung yang sedang ditambang.
Pegunungan ini telah dianggap sebagai jantung pulau Timor yang menyediakan sumber mata air.
Hingga saat ini, Mama Aleta dan komunitasnya terus berupaya mengembalikan pangan lokal yang hilang akibat kebijakan penyeragaman pangan dengan beras yang telah membuat mereka rentan terhadap ketahanan pangan.

INSaalumarada Thimmakka — the Mother of India’s Trees — passed away yesterday, leaving behind a legacy rooted in resilience and love.
Long before “sustainability” became a buzzword, Thimmakka and her husband Chikkaiah quietly transformed a barren 4.5 km stretch between Hulikal and Kudur into a living green corridor.
Unable to have children, they poured their affection into banyan saplings, watering them daily, protecting them from animals, and tending to them like family.
What began as a handful of saplings grew into 8,000+ trees, including 385 banyan trees that still stand tall today, forming one of Karnataka’s most iconic green routes.
With no formal education and very limited means, she carried water across long distances, worked under harsh sun, and nurtured each plant with unwavering devotion.Her work didn’t just create shade, it created hope.
A reminder that impact doesn’t need privilege… just patience, purpose, and a heart that refuses to give up.
Thank you, Thimmakka, for inspiring a greener, kinder India. 🌿💚
