Here’s what actually really matters for IPMAT:
1) Selection is 70% QA
English is the easiest to improve quickly. QA is where most people lose their seats. Focus on QA basics
2) PYQs >>>>>>>>>> lectures
basics → topic-wise practice → PYQs + mocks + analysis
Note: If you’re not analysing mistakes, you’re not improving.
3) Skip if the question is taking too much time
If a question takes you >90 seconds of confusion → skip, move on, come back later after you have attempted the other questions
4) For VA
Do RC daily, but do it smartly:
• eliminate wrong options
• improve accuracy
• not fall for extreme words (always/never/only)
High VA score is the easiest way to offset average QA.

TUThis was my fourth attempt, and this time I went in with absolutely zero preparation. I genuinely love this exam because it tests parameters that matter in real life. The last time I picked up a book was during XAT 2023. After the response sheet, I immediately shifted focus to converting interviews and joined GDPI coaching without waiting. ( I have also compiled some free resources for GDPI prep that helped me. Comment GDPI and I will share them. )
This attempt came with a different kind of pressure. Not student pressure. More like a self check. I guide aspirants online, and it would feel dishonest if I did not take the exam myself. I wanted to see if what I say actually works. Thankfully, it did.
In my third serious attempt, the one that helped me convert IIM Kozhikode, I scored 97.84. This time, without any prep, I scored 97.72. While it may not seem like a percentile to boast it does matter to me.
Remember, if you did not score well, XAT is still there. It is an umbrella exam and opens doors to multiple colleges. Quitting now, after investing months or years, is the worst decision you can make. At this stage, momentum matters more than motivation.
My key learnings
1. Read. A lot.
I cannot stress this enough. I have not practiced RCs in years. But MBA life and my current job force me to read constantly. That habit directly reflects in VARC.
2. DILR is about selection plus a bit of luck.
It is not only about how many sets you have practiced. Your day can go wrong. Mine did. I was confident about the second set but it did not click during the exam. When the response sheet came, I solved it in ten minutes.
Exam pressure is real. The real question is whether you picked the right sets or got stuck with the wrong ones.
3. Quants is belief before ability.
I could have solved two more questions. The mistakes were calculation related, not conceptual.
As a non engineer, it is easy to believe quants is not our strength. That belief is often the real problem. During my preparation years, I worked hard on fundamentals. Even after three years, the concepts stayed.
If you are appearing for aptitude exams, optimize for concepts, not coverage.
