1. In 1996, Pepsi runs a commercial. A kid drinks Pepsi, collects points, redeems prizes. T‑shirt: 75 points. Leather jacket: 1,450 points. Harrier Jump Jet: 7,000,000 points. The jet lands at a school. The kid says: “Sure beats the bus.” No asterisk. No fine print. No “just kidding.” John Leonard, 21‑year‑old business student, sees it and does what business students do: he grabs a calculator. 2. Pepsi points can be bought directly for 10 cents each. Seven million points = $700,000. A Harrier jet costs around $23 million. Leonard sees a 97% discount and calls investors. He raises the money, sends Pepsi a certified check for $700,008.50 plus 15 real Pepsi points to meet the minimum on the order form. Under “Item requested” he writes: 1 Harrier Jet. Pepsi’s legal department stops laughing very quickly. 3. Pepsi mails the check back with a letter: the commercial was “clearly a joke.” Leonard disagrees and files in federal court: Leonard v. PepsiCo, Inc. His argument: the ad was a serious offer, I accepted it, that’s a contract. Pepsi argues: no reasonable person would think a soda promotion was giving away a fighter jet. The judge has to decide whether a commercial can be legally binding if it never says it isn’t. 4. Pepsi brings in top law firms, ad experts, even points out the jet on screen isn’t a real Harrier. They argue context, humor, “common sense.” They spend more on lawyers than Leonard tried to pay for the jet. The court rules for Pepsi: the ad was “obviously” not a real offer. Leonard gets nothing. Pepsi quietly adds “visuals for entertainment only” and disclaimers to its ads for decades. 5. The case is now taught in law schools. Lesson: ads are invitations to buy, not contracts, unless they are extremely specific. Corporations can promise almost anything on screen as long as it looks too good to be true. Leonard didn’t win the plane, but he forced a federal court to say out loud that commercials are not real. Pepsi spent millions proving in court that its own commercial was meaningless. Surgimos com a intenção de agir, mas sem máquinas ainda não conseguiríamos atender às necessidades dos nossos clientes. A primeira fase foi trabalhar informalmente, sem máquinas especiais e sem conhecimento especializado. Enfrentamos grandes desafios! A segunda fase foi mudar para algo inovador e recorrente, assim surgiu a Jet Print - sua gráfica rápida! Um dos objetivos era mostrar serviços atualizados com acompanhamento industrial (máquinas novas). Formalizamos o prefixo: *modo speed* (velocidade). Sabemos também que o progresso de um empreendimento é formalizar em conhecimento e reunir uma boa equipe para enfrentar os desafios da Jet. Hoje, com orgulho, podemos compartilhar com vocês uma demonstração do mecanismo de produção da Jet Print. O resultado de tudo isso sempre nos lembrará que vocês fizeram parte de um sonho que foi ilustrado em 2013 (criei um esboço). Só para reforçar a ideia: iremos investir no melhor para trazer resultados surpreendentes para vocês, que adquirem nossos produtos.
