BLOn this day in 1959, #JohnLeeHooker recorded the final session that would complete his debut LP, I’M JOHN LEE HOOKER for Vee-Jay Records. The album spans recordings from 1955–1959, revisiting early classics like “Boogie Chillun,” “Dimples,” “Hobo Blues,” and “Crawlin’ Kingsnake,” capturing Hooker’s deep rich vocals and rhythmic, hypnotic early sound.
Check out his performance of “Hobo Blues” from the American Folk Blues Festival (1965).

Jas Obrecht: You’ve advised many musicians – especially guitarists – to slow down and play half as many notes. But what’s the best playing advice someone’s given to you?
John Lee Hooker: Well, the best advice given to me was from my stepfather, Will Moore, and T-Bone Walker. Both of ’em told me, “Once you start, don’t stop. If you really want to do it, don’t let people dis-encourage you. Don’t let people tell you that you ain’t gonna make it. If you’re determined to do it, just keep on pluckin’.” I found that really paid off for me. Sometimes things don’t go like you want to, and you get kind of disgusted and say, “Oh, I’m gonna quit. I’m gonna hang it up.” But don’t do it. Keep on pluckin’. If you really want it, you’ll have it. I found that was the best advice. A lot of time when you’re tryin’ to start off, people dis-encourage you. “Oh, you ain’t gonna do it. Waste of time.” That’s what happened to me – people tell me I wasn’t going to make it. But I’d look at ’em and laugh, because I know what my stepfather and T-Bone told me: “Keep on pluckin’,” you know. And that’s what I did.

WE“Boom Boom” one of greatest American Blues songs ever. By singer and guitarist @johnleehookerofficial - this clip is an incredible performance from the Blues Brothers film ( 1980 ) on old Maxweel Street Market. Muddy Waters was originally supposed to be featured in the scene but fell ill that day. So Hooker filled in with Muddys band backing him. Including associates Willie Big Eyes and Walter Horton.

Daha sonra birçok blues/rock grubu tarafından tekrar seslendirildi. Bunlardan en bilineni 1965 yılındaki The Animals kaydı da Amerika da listelere girdi.

DIRemembering John Lee Hooker (August 22, 1912 or 1917 – June 21, 2001) He was an American blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist. The son of a sharecropper, he rose to prominence performing an electric guitar-style adaptation of Delta blues. Hooker often incorporated other elements, including talking blues and early North Mississippi Hill country blues. He developed his own driving-rhythm boogie style, distinct from the 1930s–1940s piano-derived boogie-woogie. Hooker was ranked 35 in Rolling Stone's 2015 list of 100 greatest guitarists.(Wiki)
