This customer was having issues with these brand new Nicks boots. The soles were very hard and he couldn’t wear them. So we just removed everything from the bottom and added a thinner leather sole, GTO Crosshatch rubber soles, added 2 layers of leather on the heel to balance it and matching heels. Much more flexible now. @nickshandmadeboots #nicksboots

Waxing the rough-out leather down on this pattern prove out build! Got a couple of my first taller pairs of horse butt boots coming through in the next orders and didn’t wanna wing it with a new pattern on those kinda leathers.. so here’s some ink blue sb foot leather taking the hit. Here im just coating the roughout part of the boot with a Japanese toko cream..I don’t think it’s gonna be lock tight water proof but will hold its own and give a good look in aging, if anyone’s got better suggestions for this please let me know! Aside from the new tall pattern and waxing down my own roughout, this sample build has allowed for a few other trials as well.. I tried slightly tinting the sole edges with a hint of black, but they just turned pure black immediately then I hand sanded them for a while and gave up so they are a distressed black now… these also gave a chance to practice the outsole stitching for half soles more and continue to pull the reins in on the outsole stitcher, also first time using vibram 700 half soles which I’m liking a lot … and in my needs to not always just use the same few eyelet options as always, these ones are dark antique brass with machined out silver barrels, they make me think of tires on deep offset wheels… also a chance to mess with more color combos, I’m liking mixing colors now that are different but have very little contrast between them like dark browns and blacks, getting a little crazier adding two kinds of dark blue to a black and brown mix here though, seems ok through my partial color blindness. #handmadeboots #bootmaking #bootmaker #shoemaking #shoemaker #leatherboots #roughout #waxedflesh #stitchdown #mensfootwear #ruggedstyle #heritagestyle #mensboots #shoecare #leathercare #leather #leathercraft #leatherwork
