JOKeloids are a type of raised scar that occur when the skin has healed after an injury. Many of us have learned that these types of scars are more common in African, Hispanic, and Asian populations - but that isn’t true. It wasn't until recently that I discovered that the evidence for this association between socially defined race and keloid formation is weak. It's another example of how linking race and specific diseases is inaccurate.
