ATUpwind technique is a combination of many elements.
I’ve broken it into three simple segments which I’ll cover in seperate videos. The first video covers the HEEL to TOE side balance.
In order to carve upwind you need to engage the HEEL side rail of the board. The flatter the board, the harder it is to go upwind. The wind strength does play a part in how much heel edge you can engage. In lighter wind, too much heel edge will kill your speed (not enough board surface area on the water to glide along), while in strong wind, go for your life.
To engage more heel edge, I like to do three main body movements -
1. Thrust to the sky (get out of poo stance)
2. Lean back into the harness (feel the pressure in your lower back with the harness)
3. Hinge at hips to drop your bum near to the water
4. Lift and toes and dig in the heels
> now you should be in a position like on a leg press machine.
Okay play with this, do some exercises on the water and then I’ll cover the next two things to do with the board soon. And all together these elements allow you to upwind like a pro.
