🧠 #BrainAwarenessWeek What if brain disease starts with a single molecular event? Scientists in the Halfmann Lab, discovered the first step in how harmful protein structures form, pinpointing the exact moment a healthy protein begins to change. That moment could be the key to stopping diseases like Huntington's before they progress. 🔗Learn more at the link in our bio. @danafoundation @brainawarenessweek @brain_facts_org @societyforneuroscience

Day 2 of Brain Awareness Week 🧠With 80-100 billion nerve cells, known as neurons, the human brain is capable of some astonishing feats. Each neuron is connected to more than 1,000 other neurons, making the total number of connections in the brain around 60 trillion! Neurons are organized into patterns and networks within the brain and communicate with each other at incredible speeds.

We know a lot about the brain, yet there are questions that excite scientists. In honor of #BrainAwarenessWeek, neuroscientist Dr. Kaitlyn Casimo dives into three areas researchers are still working to understand: 🧠 Brain cell types - The human brain contains many types of brain cells, but scientists are still discovering new types and debating how they should be organized. 🤕 Brain disease - We know diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s don't impact every brain cell the same way. What brain cells are impacted in disease and could mapping those changes lead to more precise treatments? 👀 Vision and the visual cortex - How does vision work and how does your mind make sense of the information it receives? New tools like Neuropixels can record from thousands of neurons at once, helping researchers study how the brain processes visual information. #BrainAwarenessWeek | @BrainAwarenessWeek | @danafoundation

🧠 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 | 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟏𝟔–𝟐𝟑 Your brain powers every thought, movement, memory, and idea. When brain health is strong, we think more clearly, feel more balanced, and navigate life with greater resilience. During National Brain Awareness Week, we celebrate the science helping us better understand and care for the brain. But the real question is: how do we support brain health across an entire lifetime? That’s exactly what the 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐚 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 will explore. This year’s Colloquium, Brain Health Across the Lifespan brings together leading researchers and clinicians to examine how brain performance and resilience are shaped from before birth through late life. Together, they’ll explore the science behind sleep, nutrition, mental health, neuroplasticity, and other key factors that influence how our minds function every day. The goal: translate cutting-edge research into practical insights you can use at home, in classrooms, and in clinical settings. If you care about how minds thrive — at any age — this conversation is for you. 👉 Register now: https://ow.ly/kh2O50Yu6nq #BrainWeek #BrainHealth #Neuroscience #Colloquium2026
