#notredamedeparis #cathedrale #vlog #patrimoine #decouverte

One of the most important monuments located on the banks of the River Seine is the Notre-Dame Cathedral. It stands on the site of an ancient Roman temple dedicated to Jupiter, and construction of the cathedral began in 1163 during the time of Bishop Maurice de Sully. This magnificent example of Gothic architecture was completed around 1345. The cathedral is situated at the eastern end of Île de la Cité, an island in the Seine River in the heart of Paris. Notre-Dame is considered one of the first buildings to use flying buttresses for structural support, allowing the walls to be higher and thinner. Its beautiful stained-glass windows, especially the famous 13th-century rose windows, and the detailed statues decorating both the exterior and interior, display the grandeur and artistic excellence of the cathedral. During the French Revolution, the cathedral suffered serious damage. Statues of Old Testament kings on the façade were mistakenly believed to represent French kings and were destroyed. In 1804, Napoleon Bonaparte restored the cathedral and held his coronation ceremony there. Later, the famous French writer Victor Hugo drew public attention to the cathedral through his novel Notre-Dame de Paris. As a result of growing public concern, the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc led a major restoration project that gave the cathedral much of its present appearance. The cathedral is 130 meters long, 48 meters wide, and 35 meters high. Its towers rise to a height of about 69 meters, and visitors must climb 387 steps to reach the top. The great bell located in the south tower, known as “Emmanuel,” weighs about 13 tons. All these features make Notre-Dame Cathedral a remarkable symbol of French history, religion, and art. #cathedral #paris #notredame @highlight

Notre-Dame de Paris People often forget that Notre-Dame was never meant to be a backdrop. For centuries it was a way to measure the city itself. Time, crowds, processions, anxiety, celebration. Begun in 1163, it rose slowly across generations, shaped as much by patience as by faith. Even its façade is not just decoration. The central portal’s Last Judgment is placed right at the threshold to suggest a simple medieval idea: when you step inside, you are meant to see yourself differently. What fascinates me most is how visibly the building records change. Stone holds memory. Soot, rain, restorations, centuries of urban life. Nothing about Notre-Dame is frozen. In the 19th century, Viollet-le-Duc didn’t merely “repair” it. He created a new coherence, added the spire, and popularized the chimerae that many people now assume are purely medieval. It’s unsettling in a good way to realize that part of what feels ancient is also the product of a later imagination. After the fire on April 15, 2019, the cathedral shifted in our collective mind. It stopped being only a monument and became something vulnerable, almost like a living body. Maybe that is its lasting power. Notre-Dame reminds us that great works survive by transforming. The next time you walk past the parvis or along the Seine, look at it the way you look at someone you have known for years. You don’t notice what shines. You notice what endures. #notredame #cathedral #frenchheritage #notredamedeparís #parís

🔎 Notre-Dame actually became famous thanks to Victor Hugo’s 1831 novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame — long before it was turned into a Disney movie 👀 The book even helped save the cathedral at the time by bringing attention to its condition. At the heart of Paris, Notre-Dame de Paris has now reopened after the 2019 fire — and stepping inside feels both historic and surprisingly fresh. Good to know now: – 🎟️ Free entry, but time-slot booking is required online – ⛪ Still an active cathedral (services are ongoing) – ⏰ Best to go early or late to avoid crowds – 🚧 Some parts outside are still under restoration

#NotreDameDeParis #24Mars1163 #HistoireDeFrance #Gothique #Paris Reconstruction

Everyone visits Notre-Dame… But not everyone knows you can experience it like this. Climbing the Notre-Dame towers in Paris is one of the most unique ways to see the city — winding up narrow stone staircases, stepping out beside the gargoyles, and taking in panoramic views over the Seine, Île de la Cité, and rooftops stretching across Paris. On a clear day, you can even spot landmarks like the Eiffel Tower in the distance. And here’s what most people don’t realize: 👉 The tower experience is separate from cathedral entry 👉 The entrance to the climb is to the left of the cathedral (it has its own separate entrance) 👉 You need to book tickets in advance — they often sell out 👉 Be prepared for a lot of stairs (but absolutely worth it) There’s also a small gift shop at the top that shares the story of Notre-Dame — including the fire and its restoration — and it’s much quieter than the main gift shop inside. And if you’re lucky, you can go even higher — there’s an upper level for even more expansive views, but it was closed when we visited. 💡 Tip: Go earlier in the day or around sunset for the best light and fewer crowds on the towers. This is one of those experiences that completely changes how you see a place. These are the kinds of moments that create real travel ROI — often missed, but what make a trip feel elevated, intentional, and far more seamless when planned ahead. That’s what AdvisorAdventures™ is about — going beyond the obvious and finding the perspectives most people miss. If you’re planning Paris, this is worth adding to your list. ✨ We had the chance to visit it last summer and see its magnificence after colossal restoration work 🙏. The stained glass windows, the vaults, the paintings and sculptures, everything was sublime. A big bravo to all the teams who worked tirelessly to bring Notre-Dame de Paris back to life 👏👏👏 Travel tips: 📍Online booking is highly recommended given the crowding 📍Entry is 100% free, beware of sites that propose paid tickets : book your slot directly on the cathedral’s official website 📍Plan an suitable outfit for visiting a religious place : covered shoulders and knee-length clothing, there is a check-up at the entrance and tourists are regularly rejected @notredamedeparis @parisjetaime @paris_maville #travel #notredamedeparis #paris cathedral #runandwander

Everyone visits Notre-Dame… But not everyone knows you can climb to the top. The Notre-Dame rooftop towers in Paris are a completely separate experience — and one of the most unforgettable views in the city. After the fire, parts of the cathedral have been beautifully restored, and the tower climb remains one of the most unique ways to experience it.
