😴💤🛌 Let Go Before Sleep Do you find that it’s hard to switch your mind off at the end of the day? Or maybe you wake up in the night and replay some of your conversations or situations that you feel didn’t go very well. Think about this. Whatever happened in the day doesn’t stay with you unless you keep thinking about it. Your thoughts are not permanent. They are changing moment by moment by moment, just like waves in the ocean. Thoughts and feelings arise. If we don’t follow them, they dissolve back into our mind. They aren’t physical objects but simply formless phenomena. When you understand this, you create a little space between yourself and your thoughts. As Venerable Geshe-la says in How to Solve Our Human Problems, “When we learn to view our feelings in a more detached way, seeing them simply as waves in the ocean of our mind, they become less frightening and much easier to deal with constructively.” Before you go to sleep tonight, spend a little time just watching the flow of thoughts and feelings in your mind. Don’t follow them. Just watch them. After a while they’ll settle back into the ocean of your mind. In the morning, you’ll feel fresh and ready to meet the day with a clear mind. Hope this helps.
