PAMantises are some of my favorite animals. I grew up up raising them and feeding them other bugs and have always been just overwhelmed by how beautiful they are.. this mantis is Empusa pennata — there are various Empusa species around the Mediterranean. (Somehow this looks like an insect that you would find in the rainforest, I was surprised to learn that this one is from Spain!) Stunning footage by @malbafont_macrophotography 🦋🦋🦋

FRYou would never guess this isn't a stick insect but a praying mantis until you looked at its head and front legs.
This is Macrodanuria elongata, a species of twig mimicking mantis from tropical West Africa. It's supposed to reach a length of 17cm, making it one of the longest mantises in the world, easily eclipsing the likes of Heterochaeta orientalis, which only reaches about 14cm. I'm a bit skeptical of these claims but I guess we'll see!
The one shown here has 2 molts left to go. I have a group of 8 and despite being very rare in the hobby and only very recently introduced they're pretty easy and fast growing.

JTPeople often ask how we manage all these mantises with such a large number and variety of species. So I made a video of one of Mantisfarm's L1 to L5 mantis breeding rooms so you can get a better idea of the breeding room and how we care for all the L1 to L5 mantises.
Currently, the small room with an area of over 140m2 has more than 100 cages measuring 40x40x60 with nymphs from L1 to L3, each cage has about 80 to 100 nymphs. And more than 300 cages measuring 30x30x30 and thousands of boxes measuring 10x12x17.
When reaching size L4 to L5, many small species will be moved to cages of 60x60x90 with better recreated space and more hiding places suitable for species that can live together in harmony, and large species will be separated into separate nymphs in larger, specially designed boxes.
With a total of more than 15,000 mantises in the room above, we have to set aside another room to only raise Drosophila melanogaster flies and Drosophila Hydei flies and a room to only raise Red Runner cockroaches to serve more than 15,000 nymphs L1 to L5 the most complete meals. Mantisfarm is also a place where friends from all over the world come to visit and can admire at the same time many species of living mantises and the most diverse species in the world because we cherish each existing mantis so we want to keep all mantises growing together in the best way with the goal we aim to leave for future generations a little bit of the most memorable memories of mantis species so we hope you understand us better and still love and support us in the past years.
