Lucida, 2025 An invitation to experience spaces sculpted entirely from light. The result feels as though you are swimming in open air. Using large-scale optics, we align the wavelengths of light to create coherent, parallel beams, giving light the qualities of physical matter. Lucida envisions a future where form is defined not by physical mass but by energy and perception. Here, light doesn’t serve to illuminate; it forms the very architecture of experience. Inspired by Van Gogh’s bold use of colour and the fusion of materiality with image, Sims continuously explores new ways to manipulate paint. During grad school, he developed a stamping technique, which later evolved as he discovered how tilting his paintings could create unexpected distortions. Over time, he refined this process to make these effects more intentional and expressive. “As I’ve worked on this series, Van Gogh has repeatedly surfaced as a source of inspiration, especially in how his work influenced future abstract movements.” 🎨✨
