Why you don’t always get as many eggs as expected at retrieval 👇🏼 This is one of the most common (and confusing) parts of IVF. Before retrieval, we measure follicles with ultrasound, but that number doesn’t always match the number of eggs retrieved. 🥚🥚🥚 Here’s why: • not every follicle contains an egg • not every egg is mature • trigger timing and response play a big role • smaller follicles may not be ready to release an egg • premature ovulation So while follicle count helps guide expectations… it’s not a guarantee. If you’re considering IVF, don’t start until you know these 5 things. -IVF success begins with the right diagnosis , not just treatment. -Age affects egg ( and therefore also embryo) quality, which strongly influences outcomes. -The experience primarily of the physician ( but also the IVF lab) matters more than most people realize. -Chromosomal/Genetic testing of embryos (PGT-A) can help identify the best quality embryos ( and their gender), for selective transfer -IVF requires significant emotional, physical, and financial preparation & commitment. The difference between success and failure is often the strategy used before treatment even begins.
